Taxes on Middle Class may go up to pay for health reform, no MENTION of taxing wealthy

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090803/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_economy

"Two of President Barack Obama's economic heavyweights said middle-class taxes might have to go up to pare budget deficits or to pay for the proposed overhaul of the nation's health care system."

There is not a word in this article about taxing the wealth.

Last week we were hearing it would be the wealthy who would bear the tax increases for health reform. Has this been dropped? I seem to recall that the blue dogs had successfully fought against increasing taxes on the wealthy, but I am unable to find a link. Does anybody have that information?

Increasing taxes on the middle class?

Tax the people who have the MONEY. The 5% of the population with 90% of the wealth. Tax them.

It won't be enough? Well, then GET RID OF THE INSURANCE COMPANIES PROFITS with a single payer system.

And, then cut the damn military budgets and end the boondoggles in Iraq & Afghanistan.

Not one single dime should be taxed from the middle class or working poor (the terms are quite blurred at this moment) until these steps have been taken.

You place one more straw on the camel's back & the 'middle class' will break in two.

1. Go after the ****ing tax cheats!
The 52,000 American tax cheats with accounts in UBS Bank! And that's only one bank! Go after them and the rest with off-shore tax accounts to escape not paying the IRS.

The middle class is already paying for their ****ing war; it's way past time for the oligarchs to pull their fare share! :grr:

2. I hear Obama's only going to tax the working poor, and not the wealthy at all.
Because, you know, that's definitely in line with everything else he's been doing.

3. But is that really accurate that they said that?

"Two of President Barack Obama's economic heavyweights said middle-class taxes might have to go up to pare budget deficits or to pay for the proposed overhaul of the nation's health care system."

Because so far, all I've seen is them refusing to say that there won't be new taxes. Remember, Obama promised to raise taxes by eliminating the Bush tax cuts, and he promised not to raise taxes on people making 250k.

With the healthcare debate dragging into August, this does seem like amazingly bad timing for cabinet members to be giving the right red-meat.

4. Bullshit
The plan already calls for taxing the rich in the form of a surcharge to pay for health care reform. This article is about additional taxes on the middle class in order to make the plan deficit neutral.

People will make up any old shit to bash the Democrats and the administration these days.

5. There should be NO additional taxes on the middle class until the other steps I mentioned

Take place.

Cutting the military budget. Stopping the boondoggles in Iraq & Afghanistan. Taxing the wealthiest citizens.

See how much money you could get from those actions, and then, we can talk about taxing the 'middle class' (the new working poor).

11. But you now admit the OP claim of no taxes on the rich is a blatant lie?
Edited on Mon Aug-03-09 11:36 AM by HamdenRice
As for no taxes on the m.c., it depends on what they mean. If you are lucky enough to have insurance now, even in single payer, that premium would be shifted to a payroll tax, increased income tax or premium to a public option.

Contrary to what some people think, health care is not going to be "free." Doctors still have to get paid, orderlies have to get paid, nurses have to get paid -- however it's financed.

They never said there may be taxes on the middle class but none on the rich. It is a pure invention from the RW media.

8. Can you get us a quote from those Obama Admin Officials.....
Cause so far all I've heard is the media "saying" that officials have said this. Then they show Geithner not saying anything about raising taxes at all.

I think that they think that we are stupid, and will just go with what they, the media, is saying, and they hope we believe it....but officials ain't said none of that.

It would be good to check, don't you think, prior to posting just any old bullshit? Otherwise, it might make some question your credibility otherwise.....Debbierlus, aka Bad News Bear.

24. and to add to that
without all the superfluous filler in that article, they can read the transcript from the press briefing.

I keep forgetting those are available, it really helps cut through the journalists agenda, when you can see the question they asked, and exactly what the answer was.

In this case the question was asked half a dozen different ways.

another of your Obama bashing OP's shot down in flames. It's been shown to be the pure bullshit that it was when the "liberal" MSM spun it out of control. There will be no taxes on the middle class.
