Bush had higher approval rate at this time. At this time?
At this time Bush was sitting smugly on a nice surplus that Clinton left after the deficit created by Reagan and Senior. He spent it on "tax cuts" what would expire in 2010 thus, whoever would be the President then and would let them expire would be accused of "raising taxes."

He ignored a one page memo about possible airplanes crashing into high rises in American cities.

He felt so smug that he took the whole months off (I think) to play cowboy in Texas.

And he paid his debt to the fundies by limiting stem cells research.

How can anyone even attempt to compare the two Presidents?

Oh, yes, the 24 hour cable news. Now that Michael Jackson is till dead, they have to fill time with trivia.

Or with podcast of Limpdick that make me sick - yes, Tweet and Keith - and whatever Lou Dobbs, Hannity and Orally are saying.

1. He DID NOT have a higher approval at this time, that is an MSM lie

2. Gallup used to be the big dog of polls
but M$M is using Quinnipiac now to say Obama has a lower rating because it has him at 50%.

5. Quinnipiac is out of a small college here in CT. Its not a big time poll in my opinion.
Gallup has been big and around for years.

4. Gallup was wildly optimistic about Dubya's popularity.
This was the bitter wake of the presidential selection by the Supreme Court. The dot.com bubble had just burst. People were already ridiculing him as an absentee president. Dubya received his PDB briefing today, dismissed the briefer with a snide, "Now you've covered your ass", and went out and cut up some wood. Tenet will fly down next week to plead to roll-up the al-Qaeda cells, and Dubya will blow him off, as well.

Dubya won't be popular until the corporate media annoints him King-Warrior-Savior on September 13.

6. They are manipulative, lying sacks of shit.
This morning, Christine Romans of CNN, was discussing the economy saying the free fall was over. She mentioned the tarp funds, the stimulus bill & the cash for clunkers program as a contributing factors & added, "All of which started under the Bush administration last fall." :eyes:

A couple of days ago CNN had a brief story about Obama's doctor & how he doesn't approve of the health care bill because it doesn't have single payer. Later that day, when they were no longer playing that segment, they had a ticker that read, "Obama's doctor disapproves of health care bill." They gave no reason why, so if you missed the segment, you wouldn't know why he disapproves.

Hard to believe that 41 had the highest ratings at this point in the term.

8. We were not as polarized
We did not like Reagan, or Senior, but we did not malign them.

When Clinton won, he was harassed as a "draft dodger" and, I think it was Helms, who "warned" Clinton not to visit his state.

And then with Junior, of course, who got the Supreme Court to hand him the crown..

9. Gallup's polling didn't fit the meme they were trying to sell, so they used another.
That's pretty much it.

3. If Obama was working with a surplus and 4.3% unemployment
His approval rating would be in the low 70's%.

It's absolutely stunning that his approval rating is even where it is with the mess he was left. It's equally stunning that Bush was already so low with a jacked up, thriving economy (OK, dot-com bubble burst was really hurting some areas, but still).
