And I say this as someone who experiences BOTH -isms on a regular basis.

I've seen racism at its ugliest. I went to three schools in three different states that had racial riots. The reason for those riots was valid.

Most people here don't give a shit about sexism. Sexism and racism are linked - as the Pittsburgh shootings show. A man shot a room ful of women and folks here wanted to discuss his racism. Absolutely, but let's give the women he shot and the motivation behind the shootings its day.

We're on the same side, just different schedules.

However, since it is a bunch of easily-fooled white people supported by large corporate interests and the health insurance lobby, they are simply "concerned Americans standing up for their rights".

The police just stand by and watch, instead of arresting them for disorderly conduct; you know, the same charge Crowley arrested Gates on.

All of these would be present if a group of protesting African-Americans showed up at a Republican town hall meeting to protest.

Law enforcement would be out in force at every meeting prepared to keep the peace.

And I'm sure the protesters actions would be labeled "disorderly conduct" at best and outright "savage behavior" at worst. Not to mention that most of the so-called "mainstream media" would rush to initiate a national discussion about the troubling images from the town hall meetings, and the negative consequences for America as a whole.

The "riots" I've seen on TV thru the years are groups of people bashing in car windows, setting things on fire, etc., in addition to yelling and screaming.

One major difference, left wing protests protested until the cops (like say the Twin Cities) provoked a riot. Then Minnesota became China real quick. For the most part protesters there simply ran. Some however couldn't take police beating up innocent protesters and started beating up on the cops. It was rare, but it happened. Although Even that fighting back is contrary with what the book The End Of America is about.

Now, the tension is really starting to erupt, and on Thursday night, two of the town halls turned violent.

At one, a forum on aging held in St. Louis County by Rep. Russ Carnahan, D-Mo., six people -- one of them a reporter -- were arrested. Two people, one conservative and one staffer with the Service Employees International Union, were reportedly sent to the hospital with minor injuries sustained during scuffles at the event.

In Ybor City, Fla., there were similar scuffles, some of which were reportedly broken up by law enforcement, but no arrests.
