Poll question: Do you think that this time President Obama should pull out his trump card on health care...

Obama has one ultimate ace up his suite of cards ......

and that is himself ..... His oratory skills ...

All we need is one campaign style fiery speech on this vital issue....

Something that will rally the base like nothing else ....

something that will let us know ..

that this is the moment we stand up and fight...

by god. we will put up a fight ...

a fight, that our great grand children will talk about fondly....

a fight that we are destined to win ....

1. He is a master at shining the light...
By saying things like, "I keep hearing... (insert outrageous lie here), but I'm here to tell you that is not so. Here is the deal: ..."

I've been waiting to hear this from him again with regard to health care reform.

3. When there is an actual bill, yes!
I think he should be putting pressure on the legislators behind the scenes at this juncture.

6. Not so sure
If he speaks as we all know he can, We The People can put enough pressure on Congress that we can wind up with a better bill.

C'mon Mr. President. We're pulling for you.

7. That is my feeling too......wating until the final bill is playing it too safe and can doom
the whole effort ...

The critical moment I feel is upon us.

17. I agree, he needs to show respect for the Congressional process, till
they work out their issues, then he needs to send it back and use his trump card(s) if he is not satisfied, which I hope he is not, based on what I've been reading about the initial bills being bantied around.

Furthermore, I think Obama has more in his hand than just his oratory skills. He has surprised me to date with his sense of timing and the quality of his "cards". Let's at least wait till the end of the August break and let him and other do what they're doing which is exposing the naysayers for the twits they are. Then by September, October timeframe, people will be more willing to hear him and not the "crazies"

5. Agreed. Time for the bully pulpit.
we need for our President to take the stage and speak to us about health care reform the same way he spoke to us about race and Rev. Wright.

8. I think he's nudging us, ever so slowly and carefully...
...toward the moral and practical single-payer. He's taking his damned time about it, but it's because he's trying to build the largest coalition ever. I get this, even as I am impatient for him to come right out and identify the Big Insurance thugs as our common enemy.

If he can open a door that eventually gets us universal coverage, even long after his presidency, that'll be a win. It may be the only win They can't deny him.

talking point seems to be that the more he talks, the worse his approval numbers and approval for health care reform have been getting.

Even though President Obama is now up to 58%, up at least 5 points from where it was about 10 days ago.

18. Actions for what? Seems better to discuss quietly and normally
while exposing the riled up (from other's rousing speech like Rush, Beck, etc) fools for what they are. And he is spearheading that effort I believe.

11. Later.
Let's play rope-a-dope a while longer.

After the August recess -- when all the corporate tools have played out their hands, when they have been more fully exposed for the smarmy liars and criminals that they are, when perhaps some of the deluded ignorant have seen a glimmer of enlightenment, and when a more finished bill is ready -- that will be the time.

16. Obama won the election.
He overcame all the fearmongering, all the lies, all the cheating and thuggish tactics during the campaign, and preempted a lot of more of the same on election day.

We are the MAJORITY -- those who voted for Obama and who support health care reform now -- and our numbers have grown, not decreased.

The ignorant and fearful, even whipped into a frenzy by Ph.D. manipulators and radio agitators, will be overcome again.

It is up to us, the majority, to stand calmly and fearlessly throughout this coming month, and to resist the mindless mobs' fear tactics with calm and reason.

I believe Obama knows what he's doing -- again, as before.

I believe we'll win the day -- again, as before -- for the benefit of all, even those of our countrymen who now oppose us.

20. And that issue (crazies protesting) is being addressed now.
But I do think it is not yet time for Obama to speak about a bill that doesn't yet exist. The crazy protesters do, and are being addressed by Obama and more.

23. if Obama is truely the master of political ju-jitsu, now is the moment
The republicans have been driven into a mad incoherent frenzy, and are now rushing him. Either he takes command of the situation, and it ends with them flat on their backs, down for the count wondering what happened, or he's going to get clobbered. If he plays it right, he could leverage this to go for a much stronger bill than might have been possible before, by portraying the naysayers as not governing in good faith, but it will take a good sales job to the general public to make it work.

If that's the way it plays out then he truely is a chessmaster, but it's up to him. Does he want to everyone to get along, or does he want to get things done...

He needs to settle on a plan and tailor a clear message that sells it.
