On a lighter note: Obamas going to Grand Canyon and Yellowstone
So here we are in August, time for a little summer vacation. President Barack Obama is taking Michelle and the kids out on a Western swing to see some of America’s most famous national parks.

Next Friday, August 14, they will fly out to Bozeman, Montana and the next day will visit Yellowstone National Park, home of the Old Faithful geyser, in nearby Wyoming. Later that day they head to Grand Junction, Colorado.

On August 16, it’s on to the Grand Canyon in Arizona. They end up in Phoenix for the president to address the convention of Veterans of Foreign Wars. Weather prediction: It’ll be hot in Phoenix. They’re back in Washington on August 17.

*snip*

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs imparted all this information at Friday’s briefing, and he said the visit was taking place during a “fee-free” weekend at national parks and that Obama hopes to inspire people to go visit the parks.

Sounds like fun. Two beautiful American treasures for the family to explore! Bon voyage!

1. cool. I'll be in Glacier National Park around the 16th for a week.
nice to see they are enjoying the beautiful scenery out west. I've been to Yosemite, Yellowstone, and Grand Canyon N.P.s and recommend them to everyone who can avail themselves of the opportunity.

2. Ginormous wide-open space. Presumably the Secret Service will plan accordingly.

4. quite easily. surround the president and family at all times.
those are extremely difficult places for a trouble maker to go unnoticed. have some secret service snipers perched at Old faithful lodge roof and in the grand canyon watch tower. They won't be roaming freely about but will have limited stops at the marquee spots.

3. He's going to Martha's Vineyard at the end of August, too.
Rumor has it that the wife and kids are going to sneak in earlier.

14. I was in Bozeman, Montana back in 1980 when
I was on a 3 1/2 month camping trip in the North West .. all I saw were diners and bars..now I hear from a friend who goes out there to fish each summer that there's a state of the art natural foods co-op there with a scrumtious deli:9

You know there's going to be tales to be told when they get back!

6. With all that is going on at these town halls
I think this would be a good time to put all anti-Obama protestors in designated free speech zones; like in a cage at least a mile away from the First Family.

9. ooooooh!! I hadn't heard about that. I will definitely be watching those
except it'll be online or when the dvds come out because I don't subscribe to cable or satellite any more. THANK GOD!

I bored my wife to death last year watching Baseball documentary of his.

17. Awesome!
My parents were born and raised near Grand Junction and my oldest sister was born there. I'm sending this information to my Aunt Shirley (the only relative who's a Democrat). Maybe she can go see the First Family! -- Wanet

18. He was in Junction twice (at least) during the campaign I believe.
And they came out in big numbers there for him. I go in and out of there all the time. Absolutely love that part of the country. So much to do there. And it's on the way to all the coolest places out west. I lived up valley for a time myself. Still have many good friends there. Cheers.

And him, Michelle and the kids could have taken a road trip? lol ..... Talk about a photo op. I can see it now ....... Their Winnabago ........ followed by fourteen Secret Service Limos, four ambulances, and a van with a machine gun strapped to it all driving down the freeway. lol

21. My first reaction is to be afraid for them all traveling into AZ-
it is like JFK going to Dallas. I hope and pray that that part gets rescheduled. Phoenix is full of these wingnuts who are really violent. I pray that they take the Grand Canyon and Phoenix off the itinerary. Give Yellowstone more time.

Sorry all this violence from the wrong wing has me nervous.
