Secret Service looking into Obama-Joker fax

The Secret Service may investigate a fax sent to a Democratic lawmaker that depicts President Barack Obama as the Joker and warns of “death to all Marxists.”

The black-and-white fax portrays Obama in makeup similar to that worn by actor Heath Ledger in his portrayal of the Joker in last summer’s “The Dark Knight.”

On Obama’s forehead is a communist hammer-and-sickle insignia, and beneath the image is the text: “Death to All Marxists! Foreign and Domestic!”

Rep. Brian Baird (D-Wash.) received the fax and passed it along to U.S. Capitol Police.

The Secret Service investigates threats made against the president. Ed Donovan, of Secret Service Public Affairs, said that the fax was “potentially an investigative intelligence matter.”

The fax’s image was the same featured in another recent Obama-as-Joker poster that received attention in the press earlier this week. The first image read only: “Socialism.”

The message made no specific reference to Baird and it is unclear why it was sent to his office. No other congressional office reported receiving a similar fax.

Baird has compared protesters who have shown up at lawmaker town halls during the recess to the Nazis.

“What we're seeing right now is close to Brown Shirt tactics,” Baird said in an interview with the Vancouver, Wash., Columbian on Thursday. “I mean that very seriously.”

Then watch when some of these people actually start wearing brown shirts because they either (a) don't have a clue, or (b) get a thrill out of being regarded as proto-Nazis.

Fortunately, they do not have the backing of the White House.

That's why these right-wingers are so single-mindedly anti-communist and anti-Marxist. I wish more progressives would be open to the world-view of Marx.

The reason these guys can't be Brown Shirts? They're not FIT. You can't intimidate in a uniform if you are obese. Instead of looking like ROBOCOP, they look more like MALL COP. They're tools who hide behind computers and faxes. They should be outed and ridiculed at every opportunity.

I hope the Secret Service prosecutes the living Bejesus out of this guy. Hard time. In jail. With all those really "scary" guys. Give the little fucker a taste of what the consequences of criminality are.

Well, odder than it is now.

"We" did very similar things with Bush in the past (although with FAR more justification!). But death threats, explicit or "merely" implied ? Go after them, SS, and with all the resources at your command. Reportedly there are 30 such cases a day, that sounds like a DELIBERATE attempt to swamp the SS, thereby crippling them; something like a DOS attack on the internet. There has GOT to be a Karl Rove type orchestrating that, and the SS should be able to track that person down soon enough.

as well as some even "scarier". I recall NOBODY calling them out as "in poor taste". I stand by my previous posting, and really hope that the SS NAILS the "Mister Big" behind those death threats.

just letting you know I don't agree.

that I'm NOT as infuriated by that "Joker" depiction of Obama as you are! But as a (passive) member of the ACLU for quite some time and an active supporter of its agenda, I'll support Free Speech, as unrestrictedly as possible. I may not like it, but that has NO bearing on this discussion.

The SS probably already found them. A fax machine is so easily traced and no matter where you go you'd be taped and if you did it at home then they'd know your addy. Ugh, at least they could be smart about their stupidity.
