I guess being "un-American" when protesting depends on the cause
and the method...

People taking peacefully to the streets to protest a war what "we" all knew was wrong way before "they" did are called Anti-American, Socialists, dirty hippies, traitors, et cetera et cetera et cetera.

Screaming at a political figure to drown out any possibility of holding a constructive Town Hall Meeting, patriotic...

I guess it matters what side of the coin you are on.

Personally, screaming at a congressperson is not un-American. Very rude, very disruptive, but not out of line with the tradition of public protests in this country. I remember the 60's and early 70's and many protests were just as in your face as the one's disrupting these Town Hall meetings.

What is un-American, to me at least, is the "free press" not making any attempt to get behind the true story of these protests. That they feel that the right to a free press is nothing more than a point and shoot mentality. If it moves, cover it. I've done my job.

This is corny, I know, but Uncle Ben, Spider-man's Uncle, said it best; With great power comes great responsibility.

If there are any "journalists" in this country looking in the mirror and asking am I living up to my responsibilities as a journalist, I would like to know...

1. I have a big problem with folks screaming at elected officials.
Especially when they've been egged on by certain other parties, all to make mischief with the plans to reform health care.

And if the so-called press is the party doing the egging on...

I agree about the responsibilities of the so-called "free press." They are not upholding their responsibilities, not one little bit.

2. Protesting is fine. It's American. However, screaming and trying to drown out debate isn't.

That's what the majority of the town hall yellers are doing.

3. There were a whole mess of sit-in protesting the War in Vietnam
that disrupted stuff.

I certainly don't condone what the loudmouths are doing but you have to remember, the Pink people do the same thing.

My problem with all of this is that it isn't organic, it's all about orchestrating and manipulating.

5. In the 50's and 60's we protested
loudly and rudely. I miss those days.

7. Uh, yeah.
Protesting to end the war is good.

Protesting against health care reform against your own best interests is bad.

Hullo.
