108. The GOP has targeted Health Care Reform for defeat.
I am surprised that so many who supported Obama now want to abandon him. The Republicans are confident that if they can split the Democrats on this issue and defeat any real reform of health care that they will have totally discredited President Obama and they will be back in power in 2010 and in the White House in 2012.

Single payer is not a viable option at this time and Obama has NEVER support it. Just realize that there are millions of people who now have insurance and are satisfied with their plan. Now I will be the first to agree that many of these people are totally unaware of just how inadequate their plan may be when the are faced with a major illness. I say great let them have their crappy health care and spiraling premiums

If you are so short sighted that you would abandon Obama then get ready for a real screwing when you assist the Republicans return to power. Get real and come to your senses and realize that you are playing directly into the hands of the Rovian Republicans.

This is the time to close ranks and support our president and if the reform fails then get ready to blame the Republicans for sabotaging the plan. Defeat could rally all those those millions who the GOP wants to deny health care. Come 2010 engineer the demonization of any politician who was responsible for its defeat including the Blue Dogs and pave the way for a national health care plan.

31. Progress, not perfection.
Guess I'm grateful we have President Obama instead of McCain/Palin. Guess after being around for more decades than I care to mention, I am pleased with what Obama has done since he got into office because I have never seen any other president work this hard. Guess I'm not spoiled. Guess I can wait to see what happens and hope for the best.

This is the way I look at it. I think by and large, he's doing the best he can with little support. The Democrats in Congress have a tendency to roll over and die when he needs them the most. He's only one man and he can't work miracles.

has only been in office for 5.5 months! Bush had 8 freakin years to fuck it all to hell.

Remember when all bush needed was a magic wand?? He said that over and over for every damn problem. Obama has never talked shit like that to us.

Remember Katrina? WMD's etc. There is so much that the bush bastards did that I can't even begin to list it.

All we are saying.. is give the man a chance....

He's done a whole hell of a lot more for people than any Republican would do.

And he will continue to be for the people. I'm not a one issue voter and in my opinion, the public option is NOT a dead issue.

So if you think voting for Nader or the Republican cadidate in 2012 will make you better off, then by all means do so.

109. Amazing, isn't it?
I sometimes read some of the posts here in absolute astonishment that these are people at a Democratic site.

93. Well...... considering he just replaced one moderate Poppy Bush appointee
with another moderate Poppy Bush appointee, and Stevens & Ginsburg are the next two likely retirees (or deaths)then his appointments to the court really won't change anything. Unless we find a way to get rid of Scalia or Thomas (hopefully Clarence would retire if Fat Tony was gone) we're stuck with a right wing Supreme Court even if Obama gets 8 years.

77. If you're not satisfied, you face the formidable challenge of unseating
a sitting president, one who remains significantly popular.

Also you'll need a candidate.

79. Third Party in 2012 anyone?
The Republicans are decimated, if Obama thinks he can just take everyone's vote for granted who voted for him the first time, he's sorely mistaken.

I see a real possibility of a Third Party upset if this shit keeps up...

94. voting down the line w/ the activists at DU would be the key to...
any political party remaining in the political wilderness in perpetuity. If there's no organized group of voters to the left of you, you are at the political fringe. You may think it's the correct and only direction for America, but unless you guide a majority of the electorate to where you're thinking, you'll never achieve your ideological goals.

98. #41273 to vote for Obama in 2012. Voter knows own ass from hole in the ground.
or you can see if the GOP has anyone at least of the Nixon levels of trust and when that fails to happen you can get over your self and realize this is the real world.

110. Public option seems to be still alive
Please check this on Crooks and Liars http://crooksandliars.com/susie-madrak/say-what-sebelius-touts-public-option ">Say What? Sebelius Touts Public Option on 'This Week', Throws It Under the Bus on CNN.

Here is a quote:

In the meantime, a White House staffer sent this statement to health care activists late this afternoon:

Nothing has changed. POTUS has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and increase choice and competition. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals
