Man (or woman) up! I am not sure if you guys know this but CONGRESS IS NOT IN SESSION! The public option IS NOT DEAD, far from it.

The right wing, the conservatives are taking action, the wrong action, but they are going out disrupting meeting spreading, lies and stoking fear. What have you done? (Not saying you have not done anything but making a point). Folks we need to bust our asses, we need to organize, we need to get noticed. We need to fight like hell for the rest of the month and well into September.

Coming to DU and whining is the most self destructive thing you guys can do. A small but vocal and persistent group of folks are derailing this, we need to organize.

If we want a public option we need to organize around it. I know we have some passionate single payer advocates and while single payer may not pass THIS TIME AROUND, the best way to eventually getting it is a public option.

Pick up your heads, quit your whining and lets hit the streets. MoveOn.org, Organizing for America, HCAN and others are mobilizing, we need to make sure we fight for this the same way we fought for Obama and to increase our margins in Congress. The White House, the Democrats will respond to us but not if we whine and cry every time Chuck Todd says his sources tell him the White House is going to cave on the public option.

Obama's the President of the United States, not the President of the people who agree with him/voted for him.

His "allies" have deserted him, and his enemies are being predictably unscrupulous in their slander of him and everything he stands for.

Fucking Democrats can NEVER, EVER, EVER put up a united front on anything because we've got too many holier-than-thou types who want their pony and want it now, as well as too many Congressional sellouts who would rather kiss the ass of their racist constituents than follow their consciences. Apparently they've forgotten the words of Edmund Burke too--that a representative of the people owes them not only his service, but his judgment as well.

The President's pounding the pavement, talking to crowds all across the country, but we sit on our hands and bitch that WAAAAGGGGG HE'S NOT DOING ENOUGH WAAAAAGGGG, and we say we don't trust the media but we're so willing to bite on any story that casts the President in a negative light, I say we're the hypocrites.

Suck on that, all of you.

4. Yes!! This is so true
We have to mobilize just as you said and, also, don't underestimate the power of an enraged base to get the outcome it desires. The democratic base needs to mobilize and mobilize now in a way that it never has before.

If there is no public option, however, that is the ultimate betrayal.

8. Defeat? Never! I'm still organizing on single payer and we will get it one day. The more people who
join us the faster that day will be.

I have always opposed giving the health insurance companies a trillion dollars a decade, so the fact that the so -called public option doesn't have the votes to pass the Senate i view as very good news.

If you bothered to read HR3200 and the HELP committee Senate Bill, you would know that neither have a public Option that will do anything. So this latest news isn't unexpected or even sad.

Join us in helping to get as many votes as possible for HR676, the Medicare for All Act when it's debated and voted on in the full House this September!

"President Still Favors Public Option as a Means of Creating Competition and Choice, says Gibbs"
Source: CBS News/Face the Nation

(CBS)White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said on Face the Nation Sunday that President Obama is still in favor a government-sponsored health insurance plan -- but does not intend to replicate the beleaguered U.S. Postal Service.

The federal government would be able to successfully administer a health insurance option, Gibbs told CBS Anchor Harry Smith, even though the government-run Postal Service is facing serious financial problems.

"I don't think he was saying that what we were going to do is create the postal service for healthcare," Gibbs said. "The president believes this option of a government plan is the best way to provide choice and competition."

Kathleen Sebelius is saying one thing about the public option. However, Robert Gibbs is saying another.

""Crooks & Liars: White House reiterates its support of the Public Option"

Oh, the Republicans have been having a field day with this mantra - that employers would shunt their employees into the public plan. But they're really upset for the same reason Sebelius mentioned as a positive: Job lock. Above all else, the Republican party stands for cheap, disposable labor with no rights or protections. God forbid you should have a public option - you could up and leave your job anytime you wanted!

In the meantime, the White House released this statement late this afternoon:

"Nothing has changed. POTUS has always said that what is essential is that health insurance reform must lower costs, ensure that there are affordable options for all Americans and increase choice and competition. He believes the public option is the best way to achieve those goals."

Everybody....... caaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalm dooooooooooooown.

system works. This is NOT Obama's fault. It's the Blue Dog congressional DemoCRAPS who are in bed with the corporations.

It's so frustrating because Obama is being blamed for something that he cannot control.

44. You're misunderstanding me. I did not say that I was giving up. But you have to
work within the parameters of what you have. No matter what we do, these Blue Dogs are putting up a fight; they are not listening to the American people. Make calls and do whatever we can now, but as long as their pockets are being filled with cash, as long as they are in bed with the insurance industry, we have already lost.

We need to work to get them thrown out of office.

Many of us are sitting here blaming Obama when he has no control over the members of Congress. It's not fair to him. We fight on to move his agenda forward. But blaming him rather than where the blame should be placed--squarely at the feet of the DLCers and the Blue Dogs--is counterproductive.

I'm not miserable, either. Luckily I'm here in D.C. and we are working tirelessly on the phone, knocking on doors, holding house parties.

I'm doing my part. Are you??

37. There is one thing in the bill that must pass. It is not what you would expect
There is a provision that would allow states to come up with there own health care plans. Here in California, we have had two single payer bills go the Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Both of the bills where the same. Also, the single payer bills were not some over night project. The single payer bills for the State of California have been in the works for the past three years. The Governor vetoed them both times. Schwarzenegger cannot run for Governor again because of term limits. Gavin Newsom, Mayor of San Francisco will be running for Governor of California (already announced.) Mayor Newsom has already sign into law a universal health care bill for San Francisco. This election will be held in November 2010. If the Republicans keep pissing off the country the way they have been, Newsom will be a shoe-in. That is if we do not Democrats step in their dicks the way they did in 2006.

Amusing post! Because most of your posts that I recall are about how you dislike Code Pink for hitting the streets, for fighting like hell, for all the things you are demanding others do today. The irony is delicious. I must assume you want them to fight like hell, hit the streets, but not to be in the slightest bit disruptive of anything at all? What does 'fight like hell' mean to a person who detests protest? As a person who criticizes those who hit the streets, how exactly do you hit the streets?

Go ahead we have a "search" function here on DU, call up every last post I have ever made on CODE PINK (search "wndycty" "CODE PINK") and show me where I have ever said the Code Pink should not be on the streets. Your problem is you are upset that I have a problem with CODE PINK disrupting meetings and you have twisted in your mind to think that I am telling them to shut up. Reading comprehension, use it.

48. Really winning style you have there

The mixed message of 'fight in the streets' but without being disruptive is just so funny to me. Code Pink constantly does everything you call for today. Today, you are correct! Feel good about that.
When you talk about Code Pink, you are talking about actual people. So if it gets personal, don't be surprised. You might be talking about people we love. Bearing that in mind can be useful.

You are saying, let's be clear, that people should be 'fighting like hell' and 'in the streets' but that they should not be disruptive in any way? Please explain what fighting like hell in the streets looks like if it is not disruptive. Maybe you are calling for a decorum heavy silent march? Fight like hell, but don't be disruptive. That is just a funny, funny line of thinking. We must be activists! But not draw any attention to what we are doing! Brilliant idea!
