1. Well, he also said lobbyists would not work in his administration...
...and a bunch of other stuff. It's no surprise that people are worried, but with Congress out of session NOTHING is happening ~ yet.

16. “They won’t work in my White House!”
Obama has said repeatedly this week on his Iowa bus tour.

http://www.politico.com/news/stories/1207/7411.html

Then he quickly tweaked that ~ and went ahead and broke the tweaked rule too.

30. It's their favorite tactic.
They jump on you for one thing. Prove them wrong and they jump on something else without ever acknowledging they were wrong.

Many of us who helped campaign for Obama for the election found that his biggest problem was his followers and their nastiness.

Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 10:14 AM by Fire1
That's like trying to find a needle in a hay stack, isn't it? I know there is talent outside of the lobby pool but maybe the Administration feels comfortable with a compromise of waivers and recusals, albeit that's not what he promised.

33. Bet will never be settled.
There will be language that calls something in the bill a "Public Option" but it won't be what we have all considered a true public option.

Whatever co-op or panel or limited edition only-good-on-Easter program that the bill calls public option will be the cover for signing and for welching on the bet.

Don't just bet on public option -define the terms that each of you agrees is a strong public option.

45. it is very true that a politician can get elected & go back on what they say they will do, the OP
knows this...

I hope Obama, ultimately by the beginning of 2012, surprises us all with getting things passed, but does so in such a cool sneaky way, that it impresses us - but as for now, I'm very much the doubting unhappy Democrat that believes he's just another slick politician, who may be nice, but isn't going to get his congress that is Dem. controlled, to do very much with their majority - I'd be yelling at them and saying they got in, in a landslide because of my dkaldsfkj ass, and they will be out if they don't do the major thing I promised. He also is losing people with other things he promised or attacked (like signing statements) but has changed his mind.

57. Obama flip flopped on the mandate (link)
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 11:24 AM by Becky72
From the pulitzer prize-winning, independent nonpartisan prestigious Politifact.com:

"Obama flip-flops on requiring people to buy health care"

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/2009/jul/20/barack-obama/obama-flip-flops-requiring-people-buy-health-care/

Obama's words: ""During the campaign I was opposed to this idea because my general attitude was the reason people don't have health insurance is not because they don't want it, it's because they can't afford it. And if you make it affordable, then they'll come. I am now in favor of some sort of individual mandate as long as there's a hardship exemption."
