2. What I would love is to hear Obama say point blank...
...in a town hall meeting that he will not sign a bill that does not at least have a public option. That would make me accept his word. Too much stuff has happened in the past couple weeks for me to know for sure where Obama stands.

3. Gibbs today on CBS reaffirms support for public option:
Speaking to CBS News’ Face the Nation on Sunday, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs emphasized that President Barack Obama still supports having a “public option” for health care, which the White House believes will introduce additional competition and lower prices in the insurance market.

4. Sorry, but he's surrendering to the reality.
The insurance companies own a majority of members of Congress.

8. They don't need a majority. They only need 10 Democratic Senators
I don't really know if they "own" anyone, but all they need to do to control the situation is to make sure that 10 Democratic Senators oppose reforms that they do not like.

9. Looks like he is going the co-op route
AP's report of Gibbs' statement: "Obama's spokesman refused to say a public option was a make-or-break choice. 'What I am saying is the bottom line for this for the president is, what we have to have is choice and competition in the insurance market....'"

That's about as clear as he can get. Gibbs is his spokesperson. He wouldn't be saying it if it wasn't Obama's position. Same thing with Sebellius. She wouldn't have said it without WH approval. This is standard political tactic of late. Float the idea through surrogates, deny it, but get the people accustomed to the idea, and then make it official later.
