Meanwhile, back at the ranch: Admin Changes Tone on DOMA
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 11:19 AM by Clio the Leo
Today, the Department of Justice has filed a response to a legal challenge to the Defense of Marriage Act, as it traditionally does when acts of Congress are challenged. This brief makes clear, however, that my Administration believes that the Act is discriminatory and should be repealed by Congress. I have long held that DOMA prevents LGBT couples from being granted equal rights and benefits. While we work with Congress to repeal DOMA, my Administration will continue to examine and implement measures that will help extend rights and benefits to LGBT couples under existing law.

1. But the marriage part is still immoral.
I'd like to see that tone change.

2. That is not a change. It's what he's said all along.
He may have traditional christianist misgivings about gay marriage, but he has ALWAYS said that DOMA was wrong, and that he wanted to repeal it.

Not that anybody was listening.

3. It will be a new and more peaceful world when young people can grow up
and have a REAL choice who it is they want to date and fall in love with. When it will be just as natural for a kid to have a date with someone of the same sex as it is to have a date with someone of the opposite sex.

And HOPEFULLY it will mean fewer & fewer kids placed in orphanages and foster care, as couples are allowed to raise families without judgement as to their "life style".

Hate has ripple effects that are equally as hurtful...and unnecessary...as the original stone that is thrown.

I'm just so sick and tired of Neanderthals running the world.
