I just called CNN and asked them why
while they are reporting on the television about Obama's supposed backing off the Public Options, their website says something different in their article titled...
Obama aide says president still favors public health plan

http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/08/17/health.care/

I asked how is that not supposed to confused CNN viewers who may be already confused?

I told them that they were not doing a good job at covering the Health Care issue, and it almost appeared that they wanted to confuse viewers.

I also mentioned that I didn't understand how they had so forcefully concluded that because the President had stated that the Public Option was only one component of the health care reform program he favored, that the media had, in unison, decided to intepret this to mean that he was dropping the Public Option. I told them that the CNN segment that I had just watched did not show how they had arrived at that analysis, and that I now questioned whether there was not some orchestrated move on the part of big media to work to discourage Health Care reform, because it seemed odd that all of the media analyzed the Administration's vague referrals on the public option as meaning only one thing; that the public Option was dead. Mentioned that this would make it hard for me to trust them in the future, because their appeared to be reaching, but doing so in tandum with other media sources. I said that it felt more like the media jumping to conclusions based on basically no evidence and everyone repeating the same story. Said it made me feel uncomfortable with the media appearing to take the lead in giving us their frame, instead of some simple facts.

3. Yes, but they are affecting the news cycle, and public opinion
by harping on the same story that the media has decided means something,
and they have decided what that something was.

I wish they would disappear, but there they are...at airports, and sports bars, in full display.

22. I left a message.
You have to call the Breaking News Desk to talk to a person,
and I have done that before.

I spoke really fast, and said thank you for listening to my Breaking News,
before I hung up the phone, as the person was about to tell me that
I shouldn't call this number.

What was weird, is that whatever I was pointing out at the time,
they like stopped it. I don't know if it was my call,
but these arrogant low self esteemed assholes really seem to enjoy feedback.
Note that I am never rude.....

18. Yeah, cnn is corporatewhore central but
many Americans haven't figured that out yet so calling them on their shoddy reporting is an excellent way to let them know there are people out here who know what they're up to.

I haven't watched any cable "news" since Nov 2002.

over the words of this President are on my shit list.

After giving us George Bush for 8 years, shock and awe, a trillion dollar war,
and passing sarah palin off as anything but a dumbass....
for anyone to believe this media ...... I would have to question their motives.

8. I'm not sure that I totally agree.
It's true that some people don't want a public option, but some are just too lazy to think for themselves, some are too busy, some don't know how to find other information, and some are just plain gullible.

For example, I've had to correct my mother (a registered Democrat) a few times about things she's read in the local paper, heard on TV (ABC, CBS, or NBC), or heard from one of her friends. She's not online (she's always been sort of a technophobe) and doesn't have access to other information.

9. Why CNN? ALL the media are reporting this as fact. The NY times and all the other print outlets
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 01:56 PM by saracat
also are reporting this. The WH is issuing conflicting reports. Obama himself is silent at the moment. What happens if this is true? ?????. I know I will NOT support reform without the public option as it won't be "reform" as Howard Dean says. I think this might be a test run and O is considering dropping the public option but wants to test the waters. I really hope he doesn't back down. I had great hope when he said he didn't "need" the Gop last week. We MUST have a public option. The rest is worthless.

14. Because that is who I was watching....
But I write to a lot of the media most of the time.

But I'm only one person.

As for your speculation, it is the same as the MSM's.

As for the rest of the Health Care plan, it is not all worthless....
and although the Public Option is important, and is probably the centerpiece,
it all is important.

Whether Obama chooses to make the Public Option the centerpiece,
that may not be a smart thing to do, considering the long knives.

21. Joe Klein was just on CNN saying that the public option always was a
"bargaining chip" and was always intended to be dropped in order to get GOP votes.I certainly hope this isn't true, though it may well be. I can't say that without the public option heath care reform is worthless but it will be pretty close. I was quoting Howard Dean on that. But without the public option we are just letting the Fox guard the chicken coop again.

I certainly hope you are correct in your analysis but OTOH, I am getting tired of so called "smart" politics and just wish Obama and other politicians would just be honest and tell us what they intend.I am convinced much of this "confusion" has been caused by the attempt to be conciliatory to the GOP and that has never worked and the soon er the Dem's "get'' that the more they can get done.

It really infuriates me how the GOP is better at getting their message out and setting the agenda when they are 'out" of power then we are when we are in control.
