PHOTO Eisenhower's secretary meets the President
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 05:11 PM by Jackeens

President Barack Obama shakes hands with Helen Kogel Denton - one time secretary for General Eisenhower - before he addresses 110th annual VFW National Convention in Phoenix, August 17, 2009.

She's 88! I hope I look that lively at 44. :-)

3. Yes and no. My mother knew him well - when she worked for he Sec. of War/Army...
but he was a hardass conservative on some things. HATED FDR.

5. I will never forgive him for legitmizing Nixon
"That's my boy!" he said about Nixon, after the 'Checkers' speech.

And for the next 22 years, Nixon shit in the collective well.

But Nixon was a 'star' after the Alger Hiss case, and had all the cunning and political instincts to help him gain traction. Still, Eisenhower could have never chosen him as his running mate - but went with what the party wanted, since being humbled by Dewey's two defeats.

4. And he mentioned her at the beginning of the speech. He said he
was going off script, or something like that, because he wanted to acknowledge her. :)
