He needs to act like a president not a senator.

Good for Ed.

52. no, I see your point.
However if he'd started this conversation with a plan of his own it would've given Us something to stand behind and rally for and given the Congress something to work with.

It would have been a lot better if he'd taken control at the very start of his administration and not have let them taken over the issue and steamroll the public with the insurance co.'s billions in propaganda. Don't you agree with that?

President Obama has my full support but as it stands what exactly is it that I'm supporting? How am I NOT suppose to be frustrated by what has happened with the health-care issue?

45. When I posted this on July 30th, I was vilified....
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/WCGreen/131

Question: Could it be that Obama is acting more like a Senator than a President...

He was handed a mandate and he wishes to negotiate...

Believe me, I want the guy to win, I want national health care for all even though I have gone through that threshold into Medicare.

At first I believe he was going to set parameters and then let the legislators fill in the details.

But now he is out campaigning for this nebulous health care plan that is in constant flux.

Video of Obama saying he won't sign a bill without public option

quick cut to....

Video of Obama saying public option is just a "sliver" of health care reform.

"Same president - saying two very different things."

5. I like Ed, but he seems to get it all turned around on this.
Obama said he wanted some kind of public option and his bill would have it.. (remember the bills are in the house and senate and not on Obamas desk yet)/// What Obama said was that public option is a part of the bill he wants..

to know how he words things.. this whole idea that Obama somehow said he did not want a public option is CAPITAL bullshit.

Obama said that public option was not the only part of this bill.. what part of that is everyone not getting??

Pelosi issued a statement on public option.
Where's Obama? He has confused everybody. As with every other issue, he's trying to please everyone and for some bizarre reason - doesn't seem to have it to stand up and lead! And not just on health care.

43. You can sheesh till the cows come home..but Obama is where he always was
Wanting a public option, and private insurance reform. He has not moved one inch off of that. The bills are complex, and not simplistically one thing or the other. The public option is not important to 60% of the people..but insurance reform is.

Obama saying that public option is not the only thing or central thing in the health care reform bill is right.

They are all pieces of the a big puzzle that has not even hit his desk yet.

13. So misguided
It is good to see people finally getting fired up but you should be pushing congress and Obama, not attacking them. Yell at them, demand more, threaten to vote em out. But don't attack them in a way the republicans can use.

24. You do realize I can make a video of Ed calling the president two-faced right?
Attacking isn't pushing.

Get up there and yell that democrats shouldn't vote for Obama or congressional dems without a public option. I would even suggest calling them out for being corporate stooges, as republicans aren't in any position to throws stones on that issue. Imagine a republican ad calling Obama a corp stooge lol.

Demand what you want but be smart enough to realize that attacks weaken your target and strengthen their enemies.

33. IF you're primary thinking is political. If it's about POLICY - you stand up and tell the truth
And the truth is as Ed is giving it. He doesn't care that by showing those two videos could "help Republicans".....he's showing it because it's showing that the president is saying two different things, looking weak, acting weak and is not showing presidential leadership on a major piece of monumental legislation. Politics comes later, right now the president is trying to charm his way out of promises made. It won't work!

42. Okay then. Lets assume you are right.
And Ed's meme becomes conventional wisdom. Republicans and liberals like Ed convince the world that "Obama is the president is saying two different things, looking weak, acting weak and is not showing presidential leadership".

Now Obama is powerless, Carter 2.0. His bully pulpit, which is his only real power, is now useless.

Have no fear, after Obama is destroyed you still have tons of strong democratic leaders that can push legislation through.

It's clear that it's not "media spin" that this administration is running away from public option. Don't blame the messenger!

If there's such a commitment to it - where's the one paragraph statement saying reform must include public option? Wouldn't that clear things up real quick like?

37. What us Democrats FORGET is that there is an emotional component to POLITICS.
This cold pragmatism and rationality will not get us anywhere.

The Republicans use FEAR and FALSE IMAGERY. Therefore it's beyond time that Democrats REFUSE to accept the GOP framing the issues.

It's beyond time for Democrats to get EMOTIONAL and use FEELING IMAGES in a "good and passionate way."

There's nothing wrong with showing emotion when people are genuinely hurting due to corporate greed.

As a Nation, America has lost it's SOUL and sense of COMPASSION for the "common human being."

That's how the republicans get these poor blue collar rural people to vote against their own best interest: They stir up FEAR and LOATHING. We need to stir up some RIGHTEOUS INDIGNATION and DEMAND for a fair health care system that doesn't profit from death and dying.
