Reconciliation - I'm bewildered, sort of
Would somebody smarter than me, and would be all of you, explain what reconciliation in politics is? I don't mean Sanford & wife, I mean as far as passing a bill goes. I've heard it said times that the Dems could get health reform (notice I didn't use the word 'insurance') passed with 50 votes, under reconciliation but risking a filibuster. This sounds too good to be true.

They ought to just go for single payer and get even with those dumb-dumbs who won't agree to a public option and let them filibuster till the blue dogs get even bluer.

Why are they reluctant to use reconciliation (or am I using the word incorrectly)?

1. Nutshell: A Senate process that allows bills to go thru without being subject to the filibuster...

EDIT: Though people have been throwing tantrums about here and elsewhere, it's only of limited utility for the purposes of healthcare.

and we lose the WH, senate or House - senate reconciliation will bite us because then the pukes can pass anything and everything (thats our beautiful democratic thinking process on the hill)

on edit: sorry I was confusing reconciliation with the nuclear option. Reconciliation in an omnibus bill will never work because it won't have enough teeth (against the other committees and floor of chamber)I think what everybody is eluding to would be the nuclear option (in where we would have enough votes for a strong public option in the senate)We just wouldn't be able to afford to let the pukes/cons regain a majority in the senate.

3. Cool
That means that our leadership is depending on losing the Senate, but we know that anything the Reps can do, we can do better, and that includes losing, so we will lose health care reform all on our own. That'll show 'em.
