Prez Event Or Gun Show? 12 w/ Guns Outside Obama Speech

Maybe they'll soon allow these American lunatics to carry their weapons on commercial flights.

Lunatics.

It's more "normal" there. Really.

8. Do people in Arizona typically carry assault rifles around like that?
Do they go to the park, or the library or the grocery store or wherever with an assault rifle slung around their back like that?

I have never been there so I am curious if this is standard behavior.

16. I have pictures of my father walking next to McCain while packing.
Typically, few carry rifles though, they're too damn heavy, and it's too damn hot to lug something heavy around, unless it's part of your work.

However, with pistols, yes, you'll see them at the park, libraries, grocery stores, etc.

23. Thanks, boppers.
It would frighten me to see someone in a public space with an assault weapon slung on their back but the pistols in a holster wouldn't bother me nearly as much.

I don't feel comfortable with displays of weapons at a Presidential event though, especially not with how the RW talking heads have been egging on the lunatic fringe lately. The Pres would be well protected but I worry about others attending the event getting hurt if some nut decides to go off the deep end.

3. Lunatics?
Not that I agree with these "lunatics", but since when does not breaking the law constitute lunacy?

6. Give me a friggin break.
They can confiscate cameras at events and cell phones in some buildings, but can't contol gun toting at Presidential event?

Lunacy.

7. Everything legal is not sane. It is a highly provocative step in a highly emotional
setting with some people who are not very well controlled.

Beyond the gun owners there are lots of other highly wound people walking around and those guns do not appear to be very well secured, so that even if these outstanding citizens are not breaking the law they are lighting up matches next to the gas pump.

All it would take is for one unbalanced person to walk by and grab the gun and people would be shooting all over the place.

14. more people are doing this than last time it's gonna grow. Some looney tune could snap.
It's got to be HUGELY intimidating to people who go there to support HEALTH CARE rights. It's about intimidating us and getting lots of media attention. I'd be a little freaked out if I was there and saw 3 people toting guns.

15. Question: What would happen if everyone showed up
at a Presidential event carrying a gun? Would they just let everyone carry a gun in the hall with the President? If you had 50 people show up at event with a gun how on earth could the SS protect the President? I am starting to think the SS is going to let something happen like they did with JFK. This is something new with this President, I don't ever remember people showing up at Presidential events with guns until now. There is no way in hell this practice would have been tolerated with Bush and Cheney, people merely disagreeing with Bush were kept in free speech zone a mile away. To me this is the right wing trying to incite someone to shoot the President. Remember when Clinton was in office some southern jackass made the comment that he better not show up in his state.

18. The rightwing nuts have just found a way to get more attention.
And will continue to bring more and more guns to these events. Eventually, someone is going to get shot.

Or otherwise "deputized" to help keep the peace?

My husband and I were having a debate about that about an hour ago.

unless it checked baggage but you can bring a gun or semi auto rifle to a high security event involving the POTUS...WTF is wrong with that picture. Why is the SS & LE in general not turning these people away? I have a carry permit and even when I was active LE, I wouldn't think of bringing it to a venue like this. It was checked at the door or left home. Stupid, stupid, stupid lack of common sense creating a high security risk. They are playing fast & loose and creating a needless risk not only to the POTUS but those around him. You can bet you'd never got into a Bush event with one, hell the SS demanded police photo identification & supplemental id of every officer attending police week when he spoke. I thought things changed after 911?
