A Little Something From Nate Silver
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 07:06 PM by PopSixSquish
Lost in the fact that everyone is running around as if their hair is on fire, is this little nuggest from Nate Silver.

"Open Left's Chris Bowers lists 43 senators who as of last Wednesday, he believes based on official communications would vote in favor of a public option. This appears to be the best and most contemporary whip count of its kind."

He goes on to list the following as more than likely yea votes - Tim Johnson, Robert Byrd, Amy Klobuchar, Ron Wyden, Herb Kohl. That leaves 2 folks, 2.

So perhaps you get a Mark Begich and a Jon Tester to vote yes and the VP Biden breaks the tie. (You might even get Olympia Snow to vote yes)

Don't give up. We've only just begun the fight...

As I said yesterday, the other side isn't yelling because they're winning...

(Edited because I hit post too soon)

3. Jesus...
Out of 58 Dems and 2 independents, we can only count on 48 (maybe) to vote for a public OPTION?

I figured the fight was over 60 yes votes to prevent a filibuster. I thought that 50+ for passage was in the bag.

Holy crap.

BTW, are they counting Kennedy at all, because of his health issues, he may not make every vote on this.

9. I think the time is drawing near...
when Kennedy and Byrd should resign and let their states' Democratic governors appoint replacements. At some point, hanging onto your seat when you can't show up for work as often as not, begins to look like self-importance.

5. My prediction re Amy Klobuchar is that she's going to vote for the bill regardless.
If there is a Health Care Reform bill with a public option most Democrats vote for, so will she.

7. Hmmmm. Me likey.
People should be very careful about allowing the MSM to drive their emotions and inform their opinion bcause the MSM lives for the next trainwreck or scandals. And when they start predicting anything, they are almost always wrong. They thought Sarah Palin would be a huge boon to McCain, and get the women's vote!! Wrong on both counts.

That's why the GOPers are always so angry and ignorant. They believe all the shit the Limbaugh and the wingnuts feed them without reservation.
