Dear Senators; Take a stand on this:
Edited on Mon Aug-17-09 08:42 PM by Tom Rinaldo
Sense of the U.S. Senate Resolution

Whereas; Any government administered health care insurance program is commonly refereed to by some as "socialized medicine" and

Whereas; Some assert that the true health care interests of our citizens can be better served by private insurance corporations than by officials who are directly accountable to our own freely elected representatives and

Whereas; Any government administered health care insurance option is repeatedly characterized by some as "a government takeover of heath care" and

Whereas; Medicare is a government administered health care insurance program and

Whereas; America's senior citizens are deeply honored by the U.S. Senate for their long life times of service to this nation, for their numerous life accomplishments, and for their accumulated wisdom upon which we so frequently depend and

Whereas; Tens of millions of senior citizen Americans to this day receive their health care insurance through government administered Medicare and

Whereas; it has been asserted that Medicare was an unwarranted government takeover of health care for the elderly:

Therefore; Be it resolved today that the U.S. Senate shall establish as it's goal the complete privatization of the Medicare insurance program currently covering millions of Senior Americans by the fall of 2010.

Yea or Nay? Stand up and be counted!

1. I would love to make Blue Dogs and Republicans vote on this
The only thing easier to frighten folks about more than "socialized medicine" is "privatized Medicare". The same Seniors who the Right is trying to panic with "Death Panel"lies would tar and feather them if they try to end the government run medicare they have now. And if they decide to support keeping medicare government run, then what argument are they left with to oppose the public option?.

Democrats are dropping the ball by not using Medicare more often as a central talking point.

2. Is there any reason why our Senate leadership can't do something like this?
Immediately after Congress returns from recess would be my suggested timing. It sickens me that the same folks who pushed for privatizing Social Security while also dissolving any real regulation of Wall Street are not being confronted with the consequences and logical outcomes of their "Government always Bad/Corporate Business always Good" ideology. Stick Medicare in their faces and make them squirm.
