Justice Department Hires Atty Matt Nosanchuk as LGBT Liaison
UPenn law professor Tobias Wolff, who served as chair of the national LGBT policy committee for the Obama campaign, sent an email to associates last night announcing that gay attorney Matt Nosanchuk has been hired for the Justice Department as a liaison to the gay community.

Wrote Wolff: "I am pleased to pass along the news that Matt Nosanchuk has been hired as Senior Counselor to the Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the Department of Justice. Matt served as one of the leaders of the LGBT policy group from the first days of the Obama campaign. He is a respected out gay attorney and public policy advocate whose previous positions include serving as counselor to Senator Bill Nelson of Florida and doing significant policy work on gun control. In addition to his other duties as Senior Counselor to the Assistant AG, Matt will be the front office point person on LGBT issues for the DOJ Civil Rights Division."

1. We need deeds, not more window dressing

We need a bill to repeal DADT and DOMA, and we need a President that fights for their repeal, not just talks about pie in the sky. And we need a President endorsing and fighting publicly for an all inclusive ENDA. Anything less is just a dog an pony show.

3. A job 'as a liaison to the gay community' is a PR position
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 10:00 AM by IndianaGreen
that is all. His job is to keep LGBTs sitting happily in the back of the bus while his boss comes around in the next couple of years asking us for money as a reward for all the things he didn't do in repealing DOMA, DADT, and in pushing for an all inclusive ENDA.

4. You are mistaken (again)
The position is a senior position in the Civil Rights Division. That means that he will help formulate litigation strategy for civil rights for the GLBT community -- that means filing cases. It also means reviewing briefs so that they don't conflict with broader policy.

Read the OP carefully. The liaison duties are in addition to his duties as a senior attorney.
