Kathleen Sebelius retracts remarks from Sunday

by Kid G

This is going to be a VERY short diary, but I think it is worth noting given the active discussions on Kos lately. Kathleen Sebelius, about 2 minutes ago at a Washington DC conference, just reiterated the "new" public message on the administration's stance on health care reform.

In short, she said, "NOTHING HAS CHANGED." She also said that Sunday must have been a slow news day, which it obviously was.

My observations over the past few days are that the hedging comments from Obama and Sebelius were calculated messages to prepare us for a Senate bill that does not contain a public option. But I think Howard Dean is right: in the end, the reconciliation process will bring it back and there isn't a darn thing Republicans can do to stop it.

Now let's use this "controversy" to refocus. I know Organizing for America called me yesterday to phone bank, and I am ready to do it. Are you?

Thanks for tolerating the short diary!

4. Agreed. Strongly. If DU is a sample of reactions for Democrats
Than it's absolutely true we got played by the RW and MSM.

6. and the good thing is......
the "Obama wants to kill granny" meme has been replaced by, "public option... public option... public option... public option... let's talk some more about the public option..."

7. Exactly,
The RW lunatics spent their load and their is still plenty of time to push for real reform. Holding the town halls early were a great idea.

8. I disagree completely
The ponly outrage being demonstrated by anybody on Sunday were the Death Eaters telling their lies.

Lies that worked to remove a REPUBLICAN proposal that was hung on the Democrats as enabling governmental "death panels".

IF we do not get outraged at even the hint of the public option being removed, the public option will never make it to the final bill.

Get outraged or get out of the way of those who do get outraged.

10. "IF we do not get outraged at even the hint of the public option being removed"
You didn't need a "hint" to advocate loudly and strongly for its inclusion. The irony is that all it took for some people to final stand up in support an option they've been slamming for weeks is the media hype that it was being removed.

14. Then good for you, but my point still stands
No one needed a "hint" to support the public option.

13. Were you played?
just curious about so-called centrists on DU bandying the term 'The Left', and wondering if you believe that includes you?

Or is the center smarter than the 'The Left'?

12. You keep insisting on a "trial balloon" like
it's in stone..I don't think it was. Pres Obama hasn't changed on that nor will he.

2. We knew this was coming... having spent the past couple of days
trying to get through to the "chicken little" crowd. I have never seen such a group of so called activists with so little steel in their spines!
