I stood against PA town hall "protestors" to defend the Prez and PO
Edited on Tue Aug-18-09 05:12 PM by freddie mertz
And right now I have to wonder, what was it for?

Do find the president turning his back on the public option, which for me (and so many) is not just a :sliver" in the present reform, but the very HEART of it?

Yes I went to one of Arlen's town halls and counter-demonstrated against the "Americans for Prosperity" bus, pointed out the lies they were telling and the source of their funding.

I joined hundreds of others.

And now we have been let down, betrayed, tossed under the bus with the big bloody hand.

Insurance companies have won, thanks to Max Baucus, Kent Conrad, and yes, President Obama.

I'm really down about this. WTF should we do now,,,,"

Does the moron, sorry, "moran" even have a clue?

It sounds a lot like fauxrage to me, how a dweeb pretending to be an uber-liberal activist might write.

Was beyond your ken.

You might check out this link:

This was the bus that was at Sen. Specter's event last week in State College.

I was there with a couple of thousand other people.

Sometimes it is good to step away from the media froth even the good old DU for a day, just to get some semblance of reality back. You might feel the same way, but it will not be responding to the craziness of the the news, and internut, and tea baggers etc.

The bills are not even out of committee yet..no one knows for sure what will be in them or out of them till after the senate and house come together.

For sure, the republicans are not going to vote one vote for us. If we get one or two, I would be highly surprised.

But we are getting this health care act passed.

You can take that one to the bank.

This has been a wake up call for the WH ~ maybe now they'll all go back to the drawing board and get it right.

Check out what Anthony Weiner is saying (see the Hardball replay at 7 Eastern) ~ he makes a great case, and a single payer bill will be voted on in the House. We'll see.

9. Okay, so what do we do now?
Actively campaign against Obama in 2012? That happened to Jimmy Carter in 1980 and it resulted in weakening him and a Rethug win.
Do we stop doing anything since we have been thrown under the bus? If there is no way to get what we want why bother at all? Why even post on DU anymore, vote anymore, etc.
Do we keep fighting hard to try and get what we want, pressure Congress (especially those in the Senate), keep showing up at town halls (where we seem to be showing up more and more in the last few days), and keep pressuring Obama?
I think I will do the last thing although I feel like giving up myself lately.

My congress-creature is a GOP POS, unfortunately.

Specter said he supported the public option at the SC meeting last week.

He was unambiguous abut it, it seemed to me.

I have no plans to "actively campaign against Obama," whatever that means.

I like him. But I am disappointed in more than a few of his policies, especially this one as it has played out since the weekend.

Pardon my gloom and despair.

Do you realize you're engaging in prophetic doom-saying and scaring yourself into howling woe-is-me, we've already lost?

That's okay if it's done consciously so you can get a good laugh at yourself - eventually.

Just don't expect too many others to take your forecasts seriously.

Obama: "the public option, whether we have it or don't have it" ..it's "just a sliver"; Gibbs the president "preferes" a public option..etc are self-evident shifts from strong support (July 25 radio address) to today..

Here are clips from Rachel Maddow and Jon Stewart that comment on or contrast the various statements:

I do, so far.

Time for leadership is long overdue.

We are now getting a measure of it from Dems in congress.

I have heard little that makes sense from the White House in the past several days, and nothing but defeatist nonsense from the Senate Dems whose "negotiations" have held us hostage for weeks on end.

Or do you think Baucus and Conrad are doing swell right now?

46. Specter has been interesting
That was months ago of course.

I still hate the Rendell machine, and still plan to vote for Joe Sestak in the primary.

But seeing Specter stand up to those assholes changed my opinion of him.

Up to this point, my main sense of Specter was based on Anita Hill and "I'm not a loyal Democrat"...

But at the town halls, he seemed--brave. And principled.

And he showed spine in the face of truly awful provocation.

So I found a new respect for the old guy, and found that yes, I could very easily vote for him the general election.

It was the town hall freaks who changed the game for me.

You can credit my "new found" respect a product of the polarizing tactics of the righties, plus Specter's own display of dignity and strength under fire.

As for Obama's shift, yes or no, it has been the political topic number 1 of the past several days.

It is not something I invented.

It was in the news.

In my town.

A few days earlier the Lebanon PA event with the screaming wingnuts received wide national airplay.

This motivated me to be sure to attend the other one, and we were stuck outside by the large crowd, arguing with the wingnuts from Americans for Prosperity.

What is your problem with that exactly?

I see no proof to support your claims that you've been let down. Fuck this, you just want to jump on the bandwagon of senseless whingers than be my guest---but don't be surprised by some of the posts who don't take your crap lightly. The President has spent his days going from town hall to town hall standing by the PO and making countless public options. If you take issue with his Cabinet then fine---But the President, who is the final word I might add, has made his position and he hasn't strayed once. But your definitely quick to pass judgement on what he will do in future. God I'm happy it's not people like you who is president. I don't deal well with wishy-washy whiners.
