HuffPo: New Poll: 77 Percent Support "Choice" Of Public Option
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/08/20/new-poll-77-percent-suppo_n_264375.html

More than three out of every four Americans feel it is important to have a "choice" between a government-run health care insurance option and private coverage, according to a public opinion poll released on Thursday.

A new study by SurveyUSA puts support for a public option at a robust 77 percent, one percentage point higher than where it stood in June.

....

To ensure that its respondent pool was composed of people from similar demographics and political mindsets, SurveyUSA asked respondents a question pulled directly from NBC's August survey. The results were nearly identical.

5. It would be more of a warning if the people understood Obama's plan.
Another poll posted earlier this week asked people if they supported Obama's plan and only 39% did. Then they were read a proposal for health care reform that was unattributed to any politician and 56% supported it. The unattributed plan? Obama's.

The vast lack of understanding and misinformation out in the public forum right now is absolutely killing us, much more than anything else.

4. Think "Morning Joe" will be salivating over this one?
The msm is doing their best to squash the public option. If they don't start reporting this news, they are getting a call from me :-).

13. They obviously didn't ask the Democratic Senators.
There is a BIG difference between what the public expects from a "Public Option", and what the Democrats call a "Public Option" in HR3200.

Most of the 77% believe that "Public Option" means a Publicly Owned, Government Administered, Non-Profit alternative ("like Medicare") to Private Health Insurance that is available to anyone who wants it.

If the final bill looks anything like HR 3200, that 77% are going to be PISSED when they see the final product.

14. And yet, we won't have a choice
At least not everybody. Why is the public option only available on the exchange? Why the hell aren't we decoupling health insurance from employment? Put everyone on the exchange.
