NPR - Whole Foods CEO "On Vacation" After WSJ Editorial Opposing Healthcare Reform
You have to admire the right wing. After the 2008 implosion, and the current mess healthcare is in today, he is pushing for even more reliance on private insurance.

Whole Foods has taken pains to distance itself from founder and CEO John Mackey, but it may be too late.

The outspoken chief executive is so much the face of the popular natural food chain that when his health care column was published last week with the headline "The Whole Foods Alternative to ObamaCare," some of his customers freaked.

The op-ed piece for The Wall Street Journal slammed President Obama's health care plans and offered Mackey's own market-based ideas. It caused an uproar — some have even said they'll boycott the store.

Hugh Sparks of Austin, Texas, says he won't be shopping at the store "as long as this person is in charge at Whole Foods and he maintains his opposition to appropriate health care payment."

"If this is their corporate philosophy, I cannot support that," Sparks says. "There are other places to get the products that I want to buy."

4. I swear, it's like some of these rightwing nimrods have never heard of the Internet.
They think it is still 1994 and they can espouse their extremist views without consequence. Do they still not realize we talk to each other behind their backs and have the ability to forward articles with commentary?

How's the weather there in Portland, Ore? It's pretty darn hot and muggy here in Central New York.

My daughter and her fam just got back from New Zealand(Wellington) so I have to find out how they enjoyed that trip way down under and across the Planet.

B-)

12. Nice today -- high 80s, dry.
Yesterday was almost 100 -- too hot. We went to a concert at the zoo (world music) last night, ate our picnic, the sun went down, people were mamba-ing, and it was very nice.

My only complaint about late summer here is the garden spiders make their webs EVERYWHERE. You have to walk constantly waving a stick in front of you. :)

New Zealand -- I've always wanted to go there ... I'll bet it was fabulous!

5. This dude has always been
a 'free market' dog-eat-dog asshole. I never shop there. He laughs at the liberal/progressives who shop at his stores.

He likes money. He hates non-rich people.

17. What charity?
Salary to these types of executives is nothing....they have stock and options which provides them with the big bucks...and never forget the wonderful Bonuses.

9. He should be fired immediately
He has shown such poor insight into the sensibilities and desires of his customer base, how could be possible be able to run the operation?

16. This is probably his third strike. He'd had earlier problems too
With both trying to pump up the stock anonymously on message boards in an almost illegal fashion, and also the company had pulled some very unpopular lawsuits that generated an earlier boycott here in Portland against another independent store in their pursuit to become a monopoly and pretend not to be at the same time...

Beck, your reckoning's beckoning!...

Mackey, you are his tacky lacky!

I wonder if they're going to find Ken Lay in the Cayman's to have a few rum drinks!

I loved seeing New Seasons employees give each other high fives when I told them about Macky's wackiness this week! A few them noted that they had some customers here state that they had come from Whole Foods and were going to stick with being New Seasons' shoppers now.
