GOP 2010 Platform - "Americans Have Every Right To Be Scared" - Yup, Mindless Hysteria Is A Winner!
I usually hear this reference as a throwaway line on TV interviews, and it is rarely included in quotes because, well, it does not say squat factually. However, everytime I hear a Republican being interviewed, there is always some reference to the right of Americans to be scared, and that Americans should fear a government takeover. It is a wonderful line in that it requires Democrats to prove a negative, since the Republicans never spell out what is objectionable. Rather, they just advocate an irrational paranois by the American public, but make no effort whatsoever to respond to these fears. Yet, the Republicans repeatedly get a free pass on this. The media should ask each Republican who makes this argument in favor of distrusting the government (President Obama) what that politician was doing to address these "fears." What exactly should Americans be fearful of?

It worked brilliantly for the Republicans after 9/11, and even some liberals have bought into this. I like how the liberal media and President Obama are starting to call Republicans on this, but the sad thing is that a lot of this fear mongering is carried out by surrogates such as Fox News. Thus, we can't given Repubvlicans a free pass on this. If Republicans advocate fear, they should be asked isn't it their job to reassure Americans and find answers for their constituents, rather than just telling voters that they should be "fearful."

2. I haven't heard it but I've read
what they say on DU and anytime they can condone scaredy Americans they do it.

I like FDR's quote from his first Inaugural Address .."The only thing we have to fear is fear itself"..

The rest of that quote..

"—nameless, unreasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. In every dark hour of our national life a leadership of frankness and vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. I am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days."

No wonder republicons hate FDR and Eleanor.

4. Where in the constitution is the right to be afraid mentioned?
Figure that's a good comeback.

5. Yeah, considering how most of them purport to be "strict constructionists"
and tell the rest of us that they don't believe in "finding" rights in the US Constitution that were never inscribed within the actual document- despite the fact that the Constitution actually does anticipate the discovery of rights not otherwise codified- they just tend to gloss over that fact. Except, of course, on the occasions when they happen to "find" what they are looking for in the US Constitution to help overturn decisions they don't like, help corporations and RW causes, and, most famously, helping steal elections for failed Presidential candidates whom are seeking to overturn the will of the voters. :puke:
