What the anti-health reform activists are calling "Death Panels?"
I don't know about anyone else, but all my family, friends and self have been asked prior to being admitted to a medical facility or by our physicians if we have a "Living Will." This idiot who proclaims to be an authority/PHD on infections can't seem to wrap her brain around the idea that "Living Will's," have been around for a long time and have been drawn up and reviewed with family members, personal physicians, medical facilities and the patient. The anti-reformers such as this moran are attempting to spread fear among the elderly, when this should be a priority among all responsible families and individuals alike. Terri Schivo (sp), was not an old lady, but a young vibrant woman who was suddenly struck down.....which could and had happened to many individuals. When a family is faced with a loved one being placed on a ventilator, a machine to keep the heart and lungs functioning while the brain is dead is better decided prior to the need. As in the case of Terri Schaivo, without a "living Will," family members who should have stood together during this tragedy, created a National circus. Thus the big push for Living Wills. My family attorney, drew up a Living Will along with my regular will and told me to sit down with my family members and discuss the options. It gave various opptions and after discussion with my family members, I checked off the specific items I wanted done and then signed and had it witnessed. I reviewed it with my doctor and had a copy inserted in my medical file and then give a copy to medical facilities when asked.
If you are undergoing medical care such as surgery or you have been diagnosed with a life threating outcome, you should have been asked if you have a "living will." It is standard procedure for medical care today. It sets the individual steps you want taken and relieves your family and the attending physicians from performing unnecessary procedures, which they maybe required to do without a Living Will.
Don't let them get away with this killing off the elderly crap or Death Panels. Ask them if they have a living will and if not, why not?
