Politifact thinks that the 76% comes directly from NBC polls taken in June, when in fact this data comes from a poll conducted on August 19 by SurveyUSA! Politifact does not mention SurveyUSA once in its pseudo-analysis.

This is what's written in the SurveyUSA poll that a fellow DU'er already posted earlier:

SurveyUSA Health Care Data Gathered Using NBC News Wall Street Journal Questions: SurveyUSA asked 1,200 USA adults four questions that, word-for-word, were included in the three most recent NBC News / Wall Street Journal polls.

Again, SurveyUSA polled 1,200 adults on August 16th, asking questions identical to those used by NBC in June. This does not mean that the 76% (actually 77% in SurveyUSA) stems from the June polls.

1. right now I'm only worried about 51% of the US Congress.
The rest of the country who are opposed to affordable health care can deal with it. I had to put up with their stupid war, they can put up with my "socialized" medicine. :)

4. That "rest of the country" is a substantial minority -- especially when someone explains . . .
What's actually being proposed.

3. 58% Extremely Important + 19% Quite Important that the plan has a Public Option= 77%
Question:

In any health care proposal, how important do you feel it is to give people a choice of both a public plan administered by the federal government and a private plan for their health insurance--extremely important, quite important, not that important, or not at all important?

6. Exactly. and Politifact mentioned several polls except for the SurveyUSA one
The website tried to stress the fact that several polls (Kaiser, NYT) found numbers that are way below 76% in July, but did not include the SUSA that was conducted two days ago, like I said.

7. IIRC, Survey USA was among the more reliable pollsters last year.
And their sample size was good, N=1200.

These ABC WaPo type polls are not seriously done, not up to snuff academically.

Thanks for the OP.
