3. But not bad.
What's apparent is that with the left griping, blue dogs resisiting, and media and right distorting, health care reform was never an easy proposition. The push back is coming from all sides, but mostly from the Republicans. He's still split among independents. They are bringing his job approval rating down.

Obama's favorability ratings are still in the high 50s. Latest WaPo-ABC poll.

The Washington Post-ABC News survey found that less that half of Americans — 49 percent — say they believe the president will make the right decisions for the country. That's down from 60 percent at the 100-day mark of the Obama presidency.

The poll published Friday says Obama's overall approval is 57 percent, 12 points lower than it was at its peak in April. Fifty-three percent disapprove of the way he's handling the budget deficit and his approval on health care continues to deteriorate.

Trust among some independents, and even Republicans, will return when Obama passes health care reform.

He will score a huge victory for Americans by passing a bill with a public option.

4. Once the administration gets control of the message re health care,
and more people start to feel the improvement in the economy, the independents will come back.

5. I agree with that - I just wished the administration would
they need to get control of the message - they are losing that. All of these ridiculous lies are taking their toll.

6. A couple of polls cite Dems, specifically liberals, as the reason
for Obama's declining poll numbers.

http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2009/8/21/770252/-Weekly-Tracking-Poll:-Impatient-Base-Drives-Democrats-Down

Across the board, the drops among Obama and the Democratic Party have come not from the loyal opposition, nor have they come from dismayed Independents.

They have come from Democrats.

A cursory look at the graph for Obama's favorability, broken down by party, shows that after a long period of relative stability among Democrats, there was a sharp drop this week:

Much talk today has focused on Obama’s difficulties with independents. But the drop among Dems and liberals is also a key driving factor in the President’s skid, according to WaPo polling analyst Jennifer Agiesta, who graciously provided the additional data.

8. Even that is not a huge dip: 65 to 58, and
the Kos poll is in the aggregate.

7. No matter what the polls say, Obama is still the President
and will be for at least the next 3.5 years.

I can't get too upset about polls. Not right now.

17. Nah, I'm not a sweater of
polls, either.

I know Pres Obama and his Team are doing the best job they can and it will work itself out. If we had a free media who gave the facts..can you imagine how high his polls would be? Instead we have a vipers nest of mediawhores with the brilliant exceptions of KO, Rachel, Jon Stewart, Big Ed Schultz, Lawrence O'Donnell, and whomever else can be thought of.

9. more info-
...Much talk today has focused on Obama’s difficulties with independents. But the drop among Dems and liberals is also a key driving factor in the President’s skid, according to WaPo polling analyst Jennifer Agiesta, who graciously provided the additional data.

This suggests Obama’s conciliatory approach to the GOP, and his lack of clarity around the public option — both of which are presumably alienating Dems and liberals — could be key factors driving his dip.

The numbers tell the story: In three key cases where Obama has dropped significantly, he’s also dropped by sizable margins among Dems and liberals. Let’s take the major findings driving the discussion today, and compare them with his drop among Dems and libs:

* The WaPo poll found that “49 percent now express confidence that Obama will make the right decisions for the country, down from 60 percent at the 100-day mark in his presidency.”

On that question, among liberals, Obama has dropped a surprising 12 points, from 90% to 78%, in the same time period. Among Dems, he’s dropped eight points, from 90% to 82%.

* The WaPo poll found that “forty-nine percent now say they think he will be able to spearhead significant improvements in the system, down nearly 20 percentage points from before he took office.”

On that question, among Dems, Obama has fallen a surprising 11 points during that time period, from 90% to 79%. Among liberals it was even steeper: A drop of 13 points, from 84% to 71%. (This could also partly be a referendum on Congress, but it’s still suggestive.)

* The WaPo poll also found a steep drop in approval of Obama’s handling of health care, which now stands at 46%, down 11 points from 57% in April.

But guess what: The drop during that time period was the same among liberals: Down 11 points, from 81% in April to 70% now. Among Dems overall, Obama fell six points, from 83% to 77%.

WaPo polling analyst Agiesta cautioned that independents were likely a greater factor, but she said Obama’s problems among Dems and liberals were clearly playing a key role: “This is the first sign that something is going wrong with his base.”...

10. what Obama needs to remember is there are more
democrats than republicans. We outnumber them no matter how loud they get. A lot of independents I know are one of two things either far left and refuse to be a democrat and Obama is too weak for them, or they tend to be conservative but liberal on social values. Those are just the ones I know.

So if he takes a hard look at all of us democrats still on his side and the independents that go far left, he could take that info and lean our way more...

12. That's true. Still,
who is going to benefit from Obama continuing to feed the spirit of bipartisanship when in the end the Repubs snub the effort?

Crap bill and everyone left of the DLC plus independents who jumped on board for healthcare will be gone in search of a new champion.
