5. What is he aiming for?
That needs to be answered by him before we can say it deserves our support.

Obama made a tragic mistake by not pushing his own health care reform onto Congress instead of the wishy washy notion of letting Congress devise a plan.

How did Bush get so many unpopular bills signed into law? By devising the plans in the WH and pushing his party (and our own conservative sellouts) to pass them.

A program as ambitious as health care reform should never have been left up to a Congress filled with corporate shills to muck up by Obama.

Ultimately it was HIS idea that excited people in the election, and the resulting legislation will have his signature on it, so he should have presented his own reform for Congress to consider.

29. What on earth ever gave you the idea that I "hate" Obama? Not only did I vote for him,
I actually quite like the man, personally. Do I "hate" him because my lips aren't pressed to his ass 24/7? Do I "hate" him because I question some of his decisions? If unquestioning obedience, without a moment's critical thought or reflection, is your benchmark for supporting a politician, then I would have to say it's people like you that are largely responsible for the Hell of the last eight years. ALWAYS question authority. And when he's wrong, it's OKAY to say so. He's only a man, you know. He isn't perfect. I do expect him to fight for my best interests, and yours, and when he makes decisions that run counter to that, I'll say so.

You people always whine about "You never acknowledge it when he does something right, you only speak out when he does something wrong!" Well, it's simple. Do you go to a mechanic and ask him what's RIGHT with your car? No. Because it's what's WRONG with the car that concerns you and needs attention. Same with Presidents.

8. Exactly what am I supporting?
Honestly, I'm not sure. I know I support single payer, but that's out. I know I'll be happy to support a strong public option, but at this point I don't even know if that's going to be in the bill.

I will tell you what I won't support, a bill without a public option or a President that signs a bill without a public option.

Yep, I'm just like 77% of the rest of the people in this country.

26. Here:

Statement by the President on the Health Care Reform Legislation Passed Today by the Senate HELP Committee

"Today, thanks to the unyielding passion and inspiration provided by Senator Edward Kennedy, the HELP committee he chairs has produced a proposal that will finally lower health care costs, provide better care for patients, and ensure fair treatment of consumers by the insurance industry.

Like the legislation produced by the House of Representatives, this proposal would offer Americans quality, affordable health care that is there when they need it. No longer will insurance companies be able to deny coverage based on a pre-existing medical condition. No longer will Americans have to worry about their health insurance if they lose their job, change their job, or open a new business.

This proposal will bring down costs, expand coverage, and increase choice. Through a health insurance exchange, families and small businesses will be able to compare prices and quality so that they can choose the health care plan that best suits their needs. Among the choices that would be available in the exchange would be a public health insurance option that would make health care affordable by increasing competition, providing more choices, and keeping the insurance companies honest.

This proposal would also control rising costs by investing in preventive care and wellness programs, rooting out waste and fraud in the system, and changing the incentives that automatically equate the most expensive care with the best care.

When this proposal is combined with other proposals that the Senate Finance Committee is working on, it’s estimated that health reform will cover 97% of all Americans.

The HELP committee’s success should give us hope, but it should not give us pause. It should instead provide the urgency for both the House and Senate to finish their critical work on health reform before the August recess. I want to commend Senator Kennedy, Senator Dodd, as well as Senators Harkin, Mikulski, Bingaman, and Murray on the leadership they’ve shown and the foundation they’ve laid to reform our health care system."

perhaps it is Obama's plan all along to get his base riled up and demanding he listen! Seems to me it is working, so why mess with it. Those that want to get riled up and make demands on him should, those that don't shouldn't. I don't understand this idea of challenging everyone to support him or else.... If the bill that he signs sucks, we would be no better than the repukes to support him anyway through thick, thin, disappointment, and/or lies.

21. I too have to ask, what are we supposed to be supporting....
I have yet to hear what the administration is asking us to support except "reform". I have told them what I want. Single payer or a STRONG public option. IF my tax dollars are going to pay for "reform" I want something out of it besides a "promise" from insurance executives to do better. What I WANT is for the administration to come out storming for something that benefits the people and fuck the insurance execs.
I rarely get what I want. After 8 yrs of monkeyboy, I'm used to it.

25. Props, Top Cat!
:fistbump:

Barack Obama has been President for just 213 with 1173 days until the next election.

- The first and only president to work on comprehensive reform in the first few months in office.

- A steaming pile of shit and debt and two wars on his agenda.

- 213 Days in Office.

I say we continue to support him and temper our criticism and outrage with reason.

Health Care Reform with a Public Option is on the way.

28. Support Obama by Demanding Real Reform:Medicare for All.
If President Obama doesn't pass a program which effectively reduces costs and provides universal coverage, he and the Democratic Party will be severely punished by the voters. Thus, we can best support the President by demanding effective reform. We shouldn't give up, but we shouldn't stop criticizing ineffective proposals such as the cooperatives and unregulated mandates. We must fight for Medicare for All; that's in everyone's best interest.

I'm proud of him, and feel better about my country in the sight of other nations and cultures. The climate necessary for Good to occur is vastly advanced under this president where it had been almost cancelled out under the last one.

The health care initiative was never an easy battle. Just ask Hillary Clinton. That doesn't mean it isn't needed, or Good, or worth fighting for.

Let's play all 9 innings, and let's play to win.
