"Obama May Abandon Effort to Reach Health Deal With Republicans"
http://news.yahoo.com/s/bloomberg/20090822/pl_bloomberg/a9fjicd6ygqk

Aug. 22 (Bloomberg) -- President Barack Obama is likely in September to end Democratic efforts to work with Republicans on health-care legislation and press for a party-line vote if the stalemate on the issue in the U.S. Senate persists, a person close to the White House said.

The president and his advisers have started devising a strategy to pass a measure by relying only on the Democratic majority in each house of Congress, said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

In a separate interview, former Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle said Obama is losing patience with negotiations between three Democrats and three Republicans on the Senate Finance Committee, the only congressional panel seeking a bipartisan consensus on a plan to remake the nation’s health- care system.

“He’s waited and waited,” Daschle said yesterday after meeting with the president. “He has indicated, much to the chagrin of people in his party, that virtually everything’s on the table. And he’s gotten almost nothing in return for it.”

Looks like his patience is wearing thin - Obama is calling the shots, and Republicans had better read their tea-bag leaves heed the warnings!!

1. If Obama can get universal health care passed...
he'll go down as one of the greatest presidents in history. No one will care how it gets passed, just so long as it does.

2. Will there be anything left on the table when they finally get serious?
Why don't the Democrats pass Universal Single payer by themselves?
Then watch what happens in the next midterm.
Or they can pass some watered down guaranteed to fail Compromised piece of $hit.
Then watch what happens in the next midterm.

3. We'll see what gets passed come September.
Personally, I don't think Obama and Pelosi will accept a watered down bill. My money is a bill that will be acceptable to the majority of Democrats and a good many republicans as well (although they will never admit it)

4. "Why don't the Democrats pass Universal Single payer by themselves?"
because not enough Dems believe in it.

Who are you going to get to vote for it, the fucking Whigs?

5. Further down in the article
Former Senate Republican Leader Bob Dole told reporters earlier this summer that while he believed the Democrats could pass a bill on a party-line vote, it would be a mistake.

If there's not a Senate Republican vote for the package, then the American people are going to be very skeptical.

Someone should remind that old fart who won the election. Recent polls have shown the Republicans in congress have only about a 20% approval rating.

8. Dole is probably sticking his nose into this because....
.....he's stuck at home with "Libby" since she got her scrawny ass beated in the last election. The two should sit down together and discuss the state of the nation when an incumbent REPUBLICAN senator gets beaten by a DEMOCRAT. That alone should tell them who the American people are "skeptical" about!

As far as I'm concerned, ol' Bob Dole should just STFU!

6. Since the GOP don't want people to have healthcare
then it's not much point in dealing with them?

the same people borrowed millions for Iraq!

9. On Rachel Maddow last night . . .
During one segment she said that those close to Obama say he is willing to stake his presidency on health care reform -- that if he can get it done, he doesn't care if he ends up being a one-term president. Now, that leaves open the definition of what exactly "health care reform" is to him if it has taken this long to figure out that he will get no help from the republicans . . . :banghead:

10. Waiting for September
All of these news items are basically worthless during the August recess.

September will tell the tale.
