I want Obama to stop taking advice from Tom Daschle and summon Paul Krugman instead
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 07:16 PM by Becky72
Daschle has a conflict of interest. He will do what will benefit him the most in the long run; that is, what benefits the people he's working for --health care industry lobbyists at Alston & Bird.

Daschle is said to be pushing for a co-op system. This idea, the New York Times said today, "happens to dovetail with the interests of many Alston & Bird clients, like the insurance giant UnitedHealth and the Tennessee Hospital Association. And it is drawing angry cries of accommodation from more liberal House Democrats bent on including a public insurance plan."

Glenn Greenwald replied, "Congrats to Tom Daschle's "insurance giant" clients for finding that his policy "happens to dovetail with their interests."

The President should ask Paul Krugman for advice, or any of the many other people without conflict of interest who are available to give the President honest, effective, progressive ideas.

Centrist Advisors. They have been the chief advisors and look
where it has gotten him.

11. I get the impression that Dean is persona non grata at the W.H., courtesy of Rahm
Emmanuel. They don't get along. I guess you noticed that Dean was ousted from his chairmanship, and Rahm installed as Chief of Staff, while no place was made for Dr. Dean? That pretty much says it all.

4. Obama seeks all advice. Daschle is one voice of the possible, but Obama will decide for himself.
Ideas are not the issue.

5. What is Paul Krugman's expertise in health care policy?
Edited on Sun Aug-23-09 07:01 PM by Teaser
here's the part where you say:

"Well what is Daschle's?" Of course, that is simply evading the question but I'll expect it anyway.

7. Expertise
How dare you insinuate that Paul Krugman is not all knowing? Everyone knows that he is the end all and be all of all things progressive and is never wrong. In fact, I think he should be president.

Dripping with sarcasm

It's pretty funny how both the left and the right have these figures they hold up on pedestals and swear by without any input of their own. The vast majority of threads on here are something along the lines of "(Krugman, Rich, Stewart et al nails it again." It's strikingly similar to the threads on FreeRepublic and REdstate that say "Malkin, Limbaugh, Hannity et al nails it." I wish there was more individualized thought process especially on the wingnuts side but also on the progressive side.

8. For some folks, expertise and experience with public policy
and a history of making the right calls means very little.

Maybe even less than a college education- a tenured professorship- or a Nobel Prize.

which, incidentally- is the same plan Edward's offered and light years ahead of what we're looking to settle for now. The guy knows about health economics- and can translate it to the general public better than most.

Of course, some didn't like what he had to say back about it back about 18 months ago.

26. Well, actually, Franken graduated cum laude from Harvard with a degree in Political
Science, which is more than many senators can claim. He also has a number of political best-selling books. You might want to do a little research before you put your foot in your mouth.

22. Funny...
I was thinking the same thing about your relationship to the English language. "Krugman's has" and "..., PEROID" are classics.

What is it? Is the excitement of posting something totally inane that which causes the failure of your English language skills?

I'm ending this post, "PEROID (sic)"

Damn him forever. May he rot in hell. Are you getting the message. He is a turncoat bastard that bowed down to bush like a sniveling weasel.

19. Dasshole was a complete failure as Senate Majority Leader
Possibly even more spineless than Reid. So his alleged "expertise" in Senate rules really doesn't amount to much. And the fact that he is absolutely on the wrong side of the health care issue should exclude him entirely from the process.

23. Daschle is a George W. Bush ass-kisser. How do you overlook that? I won't forgive him bowing down
to the idiot King and kissing his shoes. How can anyone ever trust that bastard after he betrayed us. He must share responsibility for the $1.3 million dead, and counting, dead Iraqi's. His job was to "check", as in check and balances, the tyranny. Instead he let us down, he chose bush* over the people.

I could forgive bush* before Dashole.

35. The President has chosen to negotiate rather than fight
And Daschle is a useful mediator between Democrats and the drug companies. Essentially what the President has done is make an expected value calculation for fighting vs negotiating. With a certain probability he will win and get everything and with a certain probability he will lose and get nothing. The alternative is to negotiate which means he will certainly get something but certainly not everything. He has calculated that negotiating is better than fighting. I'm not saying you should agree with him but I believe that is more or less how we arrived at where we are. Additionally, what is best for the President is not necessarily what is best for you or I.
