Insurers Set to Reap Financial Windfall from Healthcare Reform
http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/la-na-healthcare-insurers24-2009aug24,0,2392720.story

"2009/10 for the Health Insurance and Big Pharma industries could be the next stock bonanza that hasn't been seen since the internet stock frenzy of long past."

It's a sad day when all the health insurers are now eagerly salivating for the passage of what they expect is a watered down Healthcare Reform package. Stocks for all major health insurance giants have skyrocketed as of late by current developments. They are expected to rise even more for some time as a growing number of new investors are increasingly starting to take notice.

Mandated coverage that would forcefully bring tens of millions of new customers to these insurers while at the same time their continuing to jack up premiums is a new gold rush for the industry and wall street and everyone in the know are celebrating. Bigger bonuses, larger yaughts, and more gratuitous deaths. Only in America :silly:

I still hold out hope for America's healthcare system but as it stands i am at least going to buy some of these shares. If the final bill is watered down then at least i can make several thousands on it. If however the bill ends up being strong (crossing my fingers) and my shares become worthless then i still win -- ideally i prefer this scenario so lets hope i lose every cent on my purchases.

1. What is dangerous about this is that they will be more powerful than ever
Like more than the defense contractors powerful. And at least with them, some wars are necessary, and we need a strong military.

We do not need private health insurance, period.

As they make more money, that's all the more money they have to buy off politicians and fund slick ad campaigns, making any future effort at single payer Dead in the Water.

2. so far they're our most willing supporters
I see where that makes some uneasy but...
imagine where we'd be if they adamantly opposed us?

8. so we should...
hate the insurance companies for being with us
and we should hate congressional dems for not being with us.

3. I was just getting ready to make this point when I saw this post!
HOW will Congress be able to control costs without a public option? This is NOT rhetorical - we really need to know!

5. Just watch any of them in a presser.
THey just can't wipe the grins off of their faces. They are so freakin' giddy about the way this is turning out that their cheeks hurt from all the smiling.

6. We ALL know what real heathcare reform in this country looks like...
...it looks like a universal, single-payer model and for-profit private insurers be damned. Just about anything else is a fucking give-away to the same unscrupulous bastards that would deny you treatment because it will affect their CEO's bonus. Healthcare reform? Puh-leeze! The only thing that is going to be reformed is how the money is funneled to the for-profit vampires.
