Shock: Lieberman voices "strong disappointment" with decision to appoint torture investigator
DEM DISAPPROVAL: Sen. Joe Lieberman, the independent Connecticut senator who caucuses with the Democrats, released a statement Monday voicing "strong disappointment" with AG Holder's decision to appoint a torture investigator...

Lieberman: "I respectfully regret this decision by Attorney General Holder and fear our country will come to regret it too because an open ended criminal investigation of past CIA activity, which has already been condemned and prohibited, will have a chilling effect on the men and women agents of our intelligence community whose uninhibited bravery and skill we depend on every day to protect our homeland from the next terrorist attack. Career prosecutors in the Department of Justice have previously reviewed allegations of abuse and concluded that prosecution was not warranted, with the exception of one CIA contractor who has already been convicted. President Obama has established clear guidelines to ensure that past abuses are not repeated and has stated his desire to look forward rather than backward.

"We cannot take for granted the fact that our homeland has not been attacked since September 11, 2001. That has occurred only because of the constant vigilance and unflinching efforts by those brave individuals in our military, civilian homeland security and counterterrorism agencies, and the intelligence community. These public servants must of course live within the law but they must also be free to do their dangerous and critical jobs without worrying that years from now a future Attorney General will authorize a criminal investigation of them for behavior that a previous Attorney General concluded was authorized and legal."

1. Then we know it was the right thing to do.
Lieberman's a good barometer--if he disapproves, it's a good foreign policy move.

5. So, it's not "Dem Disapproval" at all, is it?
Edited on Mon Aug-24-09 04:41 PM by rusty charly
He left the Party, because he lost the primary. He's NOT A DEM. Do they call Bernie Sanders a "Dem"? No. Why Liebersnot? Are they still calling Specter a "Rep"? No. Why Liebersnit?

BECAUSE IT FITS THE STORY THEY WANT TO TELL ABOUT "DEM DISARRAY."

THERE IS NO SUCH THING.

Joe, why don't you just switch to the Pub party and be done with it?

7. He's just the first of what will be a LONG LIST of CIA defenders, apologists, and shills
who will claim that our way of life is being threatened by those foolish liberals who believe that the CIA works for the Congress and the People, and not the other way around.

Fuck you, Lieberman.

8. Christ! Who is this assclown?
Do the republicans have some dirt on him or something? As soon as I think Lieberman won't sink any lower - BAM - he goes down in the dirt another notch.

11. I am so sick
of Joe Lieberman. I still have no clue how he ended up as the VP candidate. A deal with the devil is all I can come up with, he's made life miserable for Dems ever since.

19. Career prosecutors concluded that prosecutions weren't warranted?
When did THAT happen?

Prosecutors get their marching orders from the DOJ. No orders, no prosecutions.

20. Laws are optional now! Yippee!!! Time to rob that bank I've been eying up.
Hell stealing money is much less of a crime than torture and murder. I am sure they won't mind now that they know putting me in prison for it would have a chilling effect on my being a good citizen that does his job like those torture specialist guys.

Can't wait to buy that new Tesla sports car I've been eying up I will be able to pay cash. I will promise that I won't do it again, that should be enough, especially for a lesser crime!
