We should press the attack - If they are against Universal Coverage - who is left out?
Concentrating on the practical questions exclusively has weakened the message.

We should also stress the moral question and press the offensive rather than responding to attacks.

When Lieberman, Conrad and the Republicans say that it is too soon to have universal coverage then they should be pressed.

Who exactly do you choose not to be covered?

1. From the tone of the Health Care meeting I attended today
I'd say conservatives think only those who can afford to pay. There was huge applause when one man said that health care is a privilege, not a right.

4. Unless of course it was them who
couldn't afford it and then it would be a right.

2. Excellent idea. Make them name groups of people who won't be covered.
And then they'll have to try to explain their way out of it.

3. They Don't Have Morals
It isn't a question for them. They believe health care is a privilege and NOT everyone is entitled. When I've posed the question, the first response is smokers; then the obese, etc. The horse they live on is very high. It will be nice to see them fall.

5. Yeah, make them admit that they are saying some people aren't entitled
to health care.

Try to get them to admit they don't they THEY should be covered if they lose their job. That they are willing to take that risk for themselves.

And that they don't mind others dying for lack of health care just because they could not afford it, so long as THEY have what they need.

That is the conservative in a nutshell - I have all I need, and that's all that matters. Why should I worry about other people?

That's how they are. Then point out to them that other people not being in the streets or their countrymen dying of treatable illnesses does not make a particularly nice society for THEM to live in. Appealing to their selfishness is the only way.

6. WWJDC?
Whom Would Jesus Deny Care??

(I'm an atheist, but I do think this issue should be framed in moral terms - healthcare is a human right.)
