Chris Matthews just called President Obama the last Kennedy Brother. . .
. . .it was an interesting comment. He said the Teddy was always trying to finish what Jack and Bobby started when it came to civil rights and his embrace of Obama was the passing of the torch to the last Kennedy brother.

...as a game-changing progressive leader, filling the big shoes of great Democratic leaders like Ted Kennedy.

(But you were just being snarky ~ as usual.)

42. Sez Me Too!! And If I'm Not Correct... It Was Kennedy Who First Called Him
the next brother! Don't remember when or where it was, but I seem to remember Kennedy making that remark. Maybe I heard it here on DU, but I KNOW I heard it before today.

May have been one of the other Kennedys, just not sure!

Time for Obama to SEIZE the reigns and fight the good fight! I think he prefers NOT to be one of those to "get in your face" types, but I certainly think the Repukes are using him to their own advantage because he wants to "work with them." Given the political climate of today, I hardly think the "Mr. Nice Guy" thing is going to work very well!

TIME to take some hostages and the BULL BY THE HORNS! If The Idiot we just got rid of was so effective, and he certainly didn't seem to have a clue, why can't Obama use his intellect and show them up for what they are??

Ignoring the crazies, ignoring those who mock you just won't make them go away! Too many Repukes want him to fail, and I don't know why he can't stand up and say it to their faces. He doesn't have to do it by hysteria, but maybe he could try taking them on and showing them... He's the BOSS now!!! And yes, even his own Party is getting away with more than they should! UNITY, PLEASE, make your Party realize you mean business!

JMHO!!

24. Ted Kennedy more or less said so himself......
that he was passing the torch onto Barack Obama.

In this case, Matthews might not have made Obama a Kennedy brother,
but at this point he has the Kennedy torch in his hands.

Kennedy Lauds Obama As Worthy Heir To JFK

CBS/AP) Two generations of Kennedys - the Democratic Party's best-known political family - endorsed Barack Obama for president on Monday, with Sen. Edward M. Kennedy calling him a "man with extraordinary gifts of leadership and character," a worthy heir to his assassinated brother.

"It was a moment packed with political significance," said CBS senior political correspondent Jeff Greenfield. "Ted and Caroline Kennedy — the surviving brother and surviving child of the most revered Democratic President — declaring that the torch has been passed."
snip
"There was another time, when another young candidate was running for president and challenging America to cross a new frontier. He faced criticism from the preceding Democratic president, who was widely respected in the party," Kennedy said, referring to Harry S. Truman.

"And John Kennedy replied, 'The world is changing. The old ways will not do. ... It is time for a new generation of leadership.

"So it is with Barack Obama," he added.

9. I agree it's probably a ploy to promote his documentary but...
Matthews has said, for quite some time, that he felt Obama is Kennedy-esque. So, he's either been planning to use that to promote his doc for some time or he really believes this. Who knows with Matthews, though.

I remember watching him tear up when Obama won and saying it was like the Kennedy's were back (paraphrasing of course).

He doesn't need to be the "brother" of three other famous and beloved politicians in order to give him legitimacy. He is already an historical figure of great import in his own right. He's not the "fourth" anything.

Tweety is moronic. Has always been and always will be.

16. Truthfully Teddy accomplished much more than JFK or RFK
in his senate career. He didn't need to be president to make a great contribution to this country. In many ways JFK was a lazy senator and an ineffective president (when dealing with congress), RFK could have been great--he certainly grew in the years after his brother was killed, but we'll never know how he would have been as president for sure. Of the three brothers in many ways Ted is the one who accomplished the most.

Ethel Kennedy told Barack Obama that "the torch is being passed to you".

I don't see this being far from his train of thought in that regard. I don't have a problem with it, nor do I think President Obama is as far away from having the mettle to fill those shoes as some around here seem to believe.
