NYTimes headline calls Ted "Gifted but Flawed" What is the flaw?
Yeah, he had an accident and did not respond appropriately. I'd remind the Times that Bush didn't do one damn thing until he was 40 but screw up and probably do drugs. Bush was flawed, Teddy had some tragedies and made one horrible mistake. But flawed? Stop it!

I'm pissed. The Times is driving me crazy latey especially after the piece this week about the man who "has never been involved in politics" until now who went to a town hall to oppose health care. Turns out he is a right wing looney with NOTHING to add to the debate and who gets all his news from Fox, Drudge and Rush. But there he is, on the front page of the Times, with the headline “Calm, but Moved to Be Heard on Health Care” Seriously. Disgusting. http://www.balloon-juice.com/?p=25964

And then this about Rahm's brother:

And now we have the New York Times, in a big take-out story, saying that Dr. Emanuel, in his role as Obama health-care advisor, is in an "uncomfortable place" because he is being criticized by*:

1) Betsy McCaughey !
2) Rep. Michele Bachman (look her up) !!
3) Sarah Palin !!!
4) Lyndon LaRouche !!!!

snip

If I start a campaign of lies against somebody and get Soupy Sales plus Lynette "Squeaky" Fromme to agree with me, can I expect them to be regularly publicized in the mainstream press?

1. We all have flaws
Heavy drinking and womanizing in the past. Cheating at Harvard and getting thrown out. Like many of us struggled with weight. Teddy was human - he suffered deeply, made mistakes and struggled out to make a difference.

2. First, all the idiots you named are still alive. Second, we're all flawed.
I know it hurts, but the media always dredges up the good and the bad of each person who dies. Just like we do on DU. Remember Sen. Ted Kennedy in your heart. Turn off the MSM, light a candle, take a walk, read or do something peaceful to remember him.

17. That is very good advice.
Probably the best advice I've seen here today.

Yep, we're all flawed.

3. Well, they won't call bush "gifted"..buzzflash has an excellent
succinct tribute to Senator Kennedy.

"The Right Wing Appeals to our Inner Demons; Ted Kennedy Appealed to Our Inner Angels. Ted Kennedy, You Inspired, Motivated and Fought for the Common Good of America. For That, We are Endlessly Grateful. The Passing Away of the Lion of the Senate and Liberal Hero, Senator Ted Kennedy. He Was 77. Godspeed, Ted, and Thank You."

4. Whatever flaws Ted may have had, they are so overshadowed by his many huge accomplishments.

5. Well he was human after all. His good works far outweighed any
"flaws." Not many can say that - myself included.

Rest in peace Senator Kennedy - you deserve it.

6. We all have flaws
And Ted Kennedy had some as well. But his brilliant mind, good heart and long list of accomplishments greatly outweighed his flaws.

7. Get used to it.
When Bill Clinton eventually goes to his rewards, you'll hear the same phrase.

I agree with you. Everyone is human, but perhaps this is the best way to describe someone.

14. That was a very long time ago.
If two of your brothers were assassinated you would probably have boozed and done worse. This man has suffered so many personal tragedies, he is remarkable to have conducted the great life that he did.

9. I don't have a problem with them noting he was flawed, I think that was obvious...
...but he accomplished a lot...he was in many ways larger than life.

as a US Senator

Courage to Advance was not lost among the 4 Bros....

We want/need/demand ANSWERS...not sour grapes....bitter to the taste.

A pox on the NYTimes....Amazing Lack of Timing, Culture, Class, and Common Sense

12. Some people including the Media do not believe in Redemption.
Personal improper behavior long long ago can never be forgiven or forgotten

The NYT apparently fell compelled to lead this way lest they be called out.

Just as with Clinton.

This is their way of bowing to Right.

13. Teddy was flawed.
That isn't entirely bad, because he overcame those flaws and established himself as the greatest senator of our time.

15. Oh, he was quite the partier in Palm Beach...
When I lived there, people would brace themselves when he'd stay at his place with friends and nephews ~ they were pretty wild and it got them in trouble sometimes (as we all know).
