Anyone hoping the Prez can gather strength from Ted's passing,

and get his focus and voice back on HCR? I am sorry, but I can't help thinking the Lion is disappointed about how the debate has gone the last few months. I can see O having a night of heavy reflection tonight, regrouping his plans and his plan of attack, and coming out fighting tomorrow to get all 60,000,000 of his voters' oars in the water. I think we can beat Big Media and the fascists on this issue, to the benefit of every American - even the ones who hate us for wanting to do right by them. But we need a spark from the president.

Time for him to draw strength from Kennedy and be the president we voted for.

Edit: i know there are those who think Obama is a centrist/DLC/corporatist. I don't. I think he wants to do health care, and is ready to fight.

1. If there is a time for Obama to come out of the gate really ready to fight for this until the end
Edited on Wed Aug-26-09 01:51 PM by Parker CA
this is the time. I too, hope that this will be the impetus for the big fight over what can truly become an excellent health care bill.

ETA: The unrec'ers are out in mass. Pathetic.

11. I agree. And along with Teddy, thinking of his mom and grandmother...

and "fighting the good fight" will overshadow any need he may feel to play politics -- in a way that would disappoint them.

It's easy to forget how personal this fight is for Obama, as even his personal story gets lost in the the side show of this Town Hall Summer.

2. President Obama has the strength if
you would open your eyes, doctor.

Kennedy knew that..and he is the President I wanted and got.

3. Wasn't it Axelrod who said "never let a good crisis go to waste"? Same with this.

5. Yeah, but I think that usually refers to sympathy
like Bush using 9/11 to advance his hope for a dictatorship. Here, I want him to reflect on the way Ted might have fought this fight.

7. That's it!
Pick up the baton that JFK, RFK, EMK have brought this far, and run with it.

8. As it stands, the reform would be watered down, centrist/dlc garbage.
If Obama can get congress to rework it into something that benefits the people and not the corporations, that would be an honor to Kennedy's legacy.

10. I hope he's reflecting - imo the healthcare industry has had too much influence...
...in the WH, for whatever reason (Rahm?). It is time for all Democratic leaders to reflect on the kind of party we want to be.

Are we the party of Ted Kennedy ~ or are we corporate hacks??

12. I was just thinking the same thing. I was just watching a video of
Ted Kennedy on the floor of the senate, talking health reform, his passion was unbelievable. I think President Obama, who has the great ability to craft the right words, and when he wants, to show passion, needs to get up and start pounding the podium. I sometimes wonder if he knows just how many Americans support health reform, and have his back.
