Hank Gilbert says he will run for governor -TX
Hank Gilbert told the Statesman’s Gardner Selby on Tuesday that he plans to seek the Democratic nomination for governor.

Gilbert, a cattle producer and businessman from Whitehouse, was the party’s nominee for agriculture commissioner in 2006. He lost that race to Republican Todd Staples, 55 percent to 42 percent. He is also active in efforts to fight toll roads.

“I just feel like we need that person at the top that has the experience of fighting in the (Legislature) and fighting to get things done for the people of Texas across this state, get people inspired to take a hard look,” Gilbert told Selby.

Gilbert is the third Democrat who badly lost a statewide election in 2006 (when Democrats were sweeping Republicans out of office across the country) but is planning to run for a different statewide office in 2010. Barbara Ann Radnofsky, who ran for the U.S. Senate against Kay Bailey Hutchison, is planning to run for attorney general. Mark Thompson, who lost a challenge to Railroad Commissioner Michael Williams, is also running for governor. And Fort Worth educator Felix Alvarado has said he’s going to join the governor’s race.

1. Do we have a GOOD candidate for governor, anyone know?
The Republicans look like they're getting ready to nuke each other down there, and I don't want us to do the same. A Democratic governor of Texas would be a major blow to them.

2. I thought our #1 guy was the Houston mayor
I forget his name, but I've heard that a guy who won two terms as mayor of Houston, with 90% and 85% of the vote was running for us. I don't live anywhere near Texas, but I've read that he's really popular down there.

3. You're thinking of Bill White
But he's planning to run for Kay Bailey Hutchison's senate seat when she resigns it to challenge Rick Perry for the republican gubernatorial nomination.

I like Hank Gilbert. He's a good guy and I'm glad he's throwing his hat in the ring. (And a considerable hat it is too.)

4. Bill White is one bad MO, I liked when he told Gov. Goodhair
not to mess with Houston, he's taking care of Houston that Gov. Goodhair should worry about other Texas issues he needs no help. Bill White has NO problem fighting for what he knows is right, when we were taking people from Katrina Bill White along with others already had everything planned in hand, he had already asked for volunteers to the medical center along with the Astrodome. Within an hour over 5000 people had volunteered, along comes Gov. Goodhair trying to get a photo op, Bill White blew him off told him he was busy helping people get settled.

We laughed out butts off, my sister who is a police officer said his office tried NUMEROUS time to get a photo op, his office was whining when others around the country toured the makeshift city in amazement.

We were hoping it would be like the last election, when Goodhair only got 37% of the vote but we think Bill White could take the office of governor but we will gladly take him to Washington too.

hehehe, my dad said the freepers head will just EXPLODE when that happens that all we need to do is remind them about Sotemayor and they are DEAD in Texas.

5. The little I know of him sounds promising.

Here is a 12 min. video of his run for agriculture commissioner in 2006 from the Texas Democratic Convention.

Straight talking, bold and smart, Yeah, I can handle those qualities in a governor.

6. Whatever it takes to stop TX to stop falling into chaos, that's all Perry's claims would lead to...
