"Obama Tags" Not A First For Rexburg, Idaho

Idaho gubernatorial candidate Rex Rammell, who joked about buying "Obama tags" in a discussion of Idaho hunting regulations is not some sort of aberration for the town of Rexburg, Idaho.

Recall this incident from November, 2008:

Students chant 'Assassinate Obama' on school bus
...
Matthew Whoolery and his wife aren't blaming the school district for what happened on the bus but they do think all parents need to be careful about what they say and teach their children.

Now, grade school kids are liable to say anything, but this kind of stuff just doesn't come from nowhere.

WTF is up with Rexburg?

3. Rexburg is a Mormon colony
I believe they still have a college there. This Rammell fellow looks allot like every patriarchal authoritarian douche bag I had to contend with growing up.

5. Hatred is taught and learned. How sad this all is. And it must be fought
tooth and nail. I used to think that ignoring it is best; after all, it's so pathetic. But now I see that it's getting worse, not going away.

6. I understand the Secret Service agents in his area
prefer milk no sugar in their coffee.

Someone might want to pass that on to him before their visit.

Article: Rexburg's last bar closes its doors

Article from: Deseret News (Salt Lake City) Article date: April 16, 2007
Author: Associated Press Copyright

Rexburg, Idaho -- They'll have to cry in their soda pop in this LDS town from now on.

Miller's Hideaway is no more, leaving this alcohol-eschewing bastion of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints without a single watering hole.

Owners Sherrie and Jim Miller said business had run dry by the time the place closed in March -- especially after officers with the Rexburg Police Department targeted patrons leaving the parking lot for frequent traffic stops.

"They didn't like being watched so close," Jim Miller told The Associated Press. "A lot of people were being pulled over constantly."

Police say the Millers' repeated complaints during their 11 years of operation were unfounded.
