Kennedy's dogs- Sunny & Spash go after a "gesturing" Biden...
For the first time in history we see a Biden rhetorical retreat!

3. I didn't care for that story...not at this time anyway..
Biden should have asked Kerry, "why the long face?"

This was supposed to be poking fun at one's self or at Kennedy. Biden gets into enough new trouble without digging out the old stuff...

I am sure that Biden got a good chuckle out of it also. Considering both they and Dodd were very close Dems with Kennedy. I think he would have had fun with it too.

The main thing was Kerry's last line, which was really important.

5. There was nothing negative about Biden in that story
The story was about Kennedy's dog and his protectiveness towards the Senator. This certainly does not get Biden into trouble or reflect in any way towards him. The fact is that Kerry is an old friend of Biden's and Kerry was said to have recommended Biden as Obama's VP.

It is amazing how you always seem to find fault with Kerry.

6. Biden gets a lot of ribbing for saying the wrong thing
at the wrong time - I was and am a Biden fan and feel that when he speaks out of turn, he is telling the truth. And he gets nailed for it every time.

I don't want to see Joe Biden getting self-conscious about opening his mouth. I regarded him as one of the best speakers in the Senate when he was interviewing witnesses.

I guess we are all protective of our "favorites" but I do like John Kerry an awful lot too.

9. I have often defended Biden
because many "gaffes" are not gaffes when taken in context. Anyone will appear to have gaffes if sentences and even parts of sentences are taken out of context. Biden could be very good interviewing witnesses or completely mediocre - I always wondered if it differed when he was interested or not. (His interviewing of Alito was the latter, most interviewing on the SFRC was the former. I prefer Kerry as SFRC chair, because he seems to have set a different tone and has some less formal roundtable sessions where a huge amount of information is brought out and discussed by al the witnesses and Senators with an opinion.)

8. Joe and John have been friends for years
They love each other and Teddy. Joe, John, and Chris (Dodd) all seemed to be very close to Teddy.

11. You are entitled to your opinion, but it was only one small reference that seemed appropriate.

Senator Kennedy loved his dog and maybe this one one time that Kerry remembered the dogs showing how they protected Senator Kennedy.

15. I bet if the camera had swung over to Biden and there was a mic near...
we would have seen him laughing harder and louder than almost anyone else there. I suspect the camera would have also shown him nodding his head in agreement as well.

There was NOTHING untoward in what Senator Kerry said, it was a heartwarming, funny story, perfect for the celebration that was intended, imo.
