Kerry on Kennedy: "Sail on my friend. Sail on.”
Edited on Fri Aug-28-09 08:38 PM by ProSense
Video: Sen. Kerry on "learning from the master", Ted Kennedy

“Massachusetts has always had its own glorious love affair with the sea. Like his brothers before him, salt water was in his veins. Teddy lived by the sea and he lived joyously on it. The evening he passed away, I looked out at the ocean, where grey sky met grey water, no horizon; the sky almost seemed to be in mourning. It was not a time for sailing. But the next afternoon as I sat at his home, I looked out at a perfect Nantucket Sound and thought to myself with certainty: he's on a schooner now – he’s sailing-- Ted, Joe, Jack, and Bobby on the fore-deck, Kathleen, Pat, Eunice, and Rosemary trading stories with their parents. Ted at the helm—steering his steady course. Sail on my friend. Sail on.”

13. Sen. Kerry was called "The Senior Senator From Masschusetts" tonight
and the pain of that is in my mind. I know he dreaded this day and hearing that phrase for the first time in public. But, I thought he recovered and did a good job tonight, even though this had to be a painful thing.

16. True, and one you know he wrote himself
The last part is as close as prose can get to poetry. His and Kennedy's shared love of the sea and nature and Kerry's ability to describe it, make that closing paragraph a perfect ending.

18. It was a nice tribute

They all did well. My dad thought Biden did the best out of all of them because his was from the heart with all the cursing (lol) and everything.

He didn't know that Dodd was a good speaker until he heard him. I told him that Kerry did good too and he thought the same because he is usually, well, "boring."

I told him there were some good speeches, but I guess he has always been lukewarm on Kerry for some reason. I don't know if it's because of the infamous vote, the missed pronoun in 06, the 04 election or just not being like Uncle Ted in some ways (because Ted never went along with BS IHO). He did say it was a bold move by Kerry to endorse Obama and go against the Clintons and the pre-scandal Edwards. And thought it was "tight" of him to protest the Vietnam War back in 71.

Everytime he mentions Kennedy, he goes bypasses others straight to Obama. And having been spoiled by Obama and his speeches, I can understand that no one can top him or Kennedy. After all, Ted and his family have passed the torch to President Obama. Nothing wrong with that. I just wish he and others could see that Obama has another good alie in his corner (even if Obama doesn't mention him. :)).

I dunno.
