Ana Marie Cox is an idiot and Rachel should stop giving her a mic.
NYC: Matt Taibbi: yay or nay?

Tucker Carlson: What a phony.

Ana Marie Cox: Not a fan but I applaud his ability to make me look like a sober and judicious practitioner of journalism.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/discussion/2009/08/21/DI2009082102966.html

I admit that I tend to give Rachel's guests the benefit of the doubt and listen closely but every time Ana Marie Cox is on I think "what did she add to the discussion?" Now this from her new gig at WaPo with Tucker Carlson called "Balance of Power" (Hubris award for the name alone?)

Cox is not a journalist so for her to say someone like Taibbi (translate: God) makes her look like a "practitioner of journalism" sounds a little like truthiness.

3. +1. And he looks doubly foolish for even trying at all.
Whenever anybody tries to be the "new" somebody else it's an automatic fail.

Funny, I can read Hunter S. over and over again. I love his thoughts, the way he writes, and his use of profanity because it fits. Somehow he always made it add to the ideas. With Taibbi it's obvious he's trying to sound cool and fails miserably.

Taibbi isn't a journalist, he is a writer. I think he is a good writer but his hyperbole and shock tactics make most of what he writes useless to me.

Anna Marie Cox is right.

7. completely agree BUT at least he adds something to the conversation
he has done some thoughtful pieces, does research, thinks about it, writes about it...you know, a journalist. Over the top, yes indeed he is but not half as vapid as Tucker and Ana put together.

5. Loved it when Glenn Greenwald called her out on being a McCain fangirl.
She proved she is nothing if not an extremely disingenuous "practitioner" of journalism.

6. Absolutely agree. Smug, self satisfied yuppie.
I can't stand that she has a radio show on Air America, either. They actually have guests on from the Washington TImes - just like on Fox.

17. Air America's a pathetic joke anymore.
They have none of their original talent left, and Ron Reagan is the only one of their replacements who is worth a damn. And I guess Ring of Fire is still on Saturdays, provided its the one day out of every three months that the real hosts of the show make it in to work. (Mike Papahoweveryouspellhisname and RFK Jr) I'll cut Bobby a little slack, given the obvious family commitments in recent weeks, but I can't take Boring Bender anymore.

9. Love Matt Taibbi. Cox is just sort of boring trying to pretend
that any of the Republicans make sense. Positioning herself as a "bipartisan" journalist.

Staking out her territory as a Conservadem or moderate Republican or something.

Matt has far more depth and passion. He's a great journalist in my book.

10. She's a gossipy gadfly
who parlayed getting fired for having a big mouth, into a cottage industry:)

noun: a persistently annoying person

11. I like her. Just another viewpoint.
There are so few women on cable news that I have a tendency to give most

a pass except for the most inane, rabid right wingers.

15. yeah
She was just on with Rachel almost trying to defend McCain on this point about torture investigations because "it was the same as Obama's position", and when she was pressed on it by Rachel, she tried to say that she meant she was "disappointed in them both", even though she sounded before like she was letting McCain off the hook for it. And THEN she said that the McCain staffers, who have had a documented history of lying through their teeth about everything, wanted her to stress that his position was the same as Obama's, which she had already dutifully repeated as her talking point. It's like, ok. You just outed yourself as their parrot. She gets very tedious. I don't give a fuck about her relationship with McCain staffers, she acts as if her special "in" makes them act any more truthful with her, but they just tell her the same things they tell everyone else.

16. Gossip girl playing at 'journalist'? No thanks.
Lightweight.

Taibbi wants desperately to be on the 'A' squad, but doesn't quite know how to go about doing it.
