Duncan Hunter played the semitic card on Hardball tonight.
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 06:31 PM by chieftain
In a debate over torture, Hunter multiple times suggested that Debbie Wasserman-Schultz ask the Prime Minister of Israel to resign because the Israeli Army uses tougher interrogation techniques than the US under Cheney. This blatant confusion of a South Florida congresswoman's position on US policy with what may be her religious affiliation is nothing short of despicable. To Mathews credit, he caught on to what Hunter was doing and tried to stop him but Hunter persisted.
Hunter should be banned from appearing on anything other than faux. This was proof positive that mostof these RWers may express love for Israel but they are anti-Semites at heart.

Thanks for the link Cha

I told Chris he had done an admirable job trying to save Duncan Hunter from himself. That said, there should TV should not offer a platform to people who want to stir up divisiveness at the expense of the Jewish community.
I urge others to write as well.

Thanks Cha for the link.

2. I hate when US politicians are linked to Israel simply because they are Jewish
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 06:25 PM by CreekDog
Even if they are advocates for Israel (and who in congress isn't) singling them out specifically seems a bit over the line. For those who are lumped simply because they are Jewish (and haven't even said much about Israel) this is just flat wrong.

I remember being pretty upset when a number of posters here referred to my congressman, Tom Lantos, as a congressman from Israel which was an antisemitic slur.

3. Duncan Hunter did a great job of showing what an asshole he is
But Tweety should have shut off his mike to allow Congresswoman Wasserman-Schultz time to respond-he and Hunter cut off almost everything she said. Hunter really showed his colors however- what a pathetic piece of shit.

4. That's total bullshit!
Israel's Supreme Court has banned torture and, while no one at Shin Bet was ever prosecuted for abuses, the fact remains that Israel rejects torture rather than embracing it like many Americans have.

I didn't watch the interview, but your description of it leaves me speechless!

15. Hunter needs to be called on it next time
or even Tweety could do a rebuttal next show.

Wasserman's response was okay but could had been much better.

Incorporating your statement that they have banned torture would be a start. And include that the Israeli's are more experienced at ferreting out information from suspects without using torture than the U.S. apparently.

Look at how well they do at keeping their airways safe because they do a better job of identifying possible bombers than the US.

13. Yeah...Cheney and his dogs have been sent out on the prowl, to dog the issue.
BARK! BARK BARK! BARK BARK BARK!

Funny the little runts whine about politicizing an issue (which I don't think is being done), after they possibly broke laws doing just that while firing DOJ lawyers and fear mongering the public over torture and WMDs.

11. I wished I would
have counted the number of times he said that our soldiers are water boarded so it was no big deal. I was appalled at his attitude and lack of knowledge or should I sum it up with one word ignorance. Seriously and I mean seriously how can he spew such garbage? On tv, no less.

12. Tweety schooled Hunter on the misrepresentation of military training vs waterboarding
Edited on Mon Aug-31-09 07:17 PM by zulchzulu
Off Hunter went into a dipshit loop on the difference between the US military training of uses of waterboarding vs actual waterboarding that is defined as torture. Hunter wanted to run out the clock by yelling his usual bullshit over Wasserman-Schultz and then dropped the "Israel" bomb. She quickly responded that we are talking about the United States, not Israel. He obviously wanted to paint her as not being a "good Jew". I guess becuase she's Jewish, she has to agree with everything Israel does... right?

I hope Tweety takes him off the list of guests. He was openly laughing at how stupid Hunter was acting.

14. It makes a little more sense now
He's not saying these things to get a reaction out of his base, he's saying these things to pull moderate Jewish voters from Schultz and the Dems. It's code-wording and it's despicable.

You can be Pro-Israel without agreeing 100% with everything they do. But reich-wingers like Hunter know his voting base doesn't understand "shades of gray" or nuance so any dissent is labeled as 'supporting the Palestinians/Iranians/Nazi appeasers/the boogeyman of the week.

Kudos to Schultz for staying on track.

16. Was this Duncan Sr, or Duncan Jr.??
The Duncan Hunter that ran for President last year retired from the House, and his son won his seat.

The entire family is insane though.

18. Duncan Hunter represents El Cajon and Santee here in San Diego County, CA.
There's a reason Santee has the nickname Klan-tee.
