She just announced her candidacy for the U.S. Senate. It's on MSNBC and probably all the other cable news networks. She's still speaking.

2. Yes, she is. Former D.A. and now our Attorney General.
She could be a very interesting candidate but as I've posted before, she hasn't had to list policies but for law and order issues.

4. She IS a Dem. She just made an announcement, starting by talking about
how they depended on Ted Kennedy, how "Nobody could fill his shoes but we must strive to follow his footsteps."

7. Yeah right!
not even giving the late Ted a week to rest before backstabbing
his family.

11. How is trying to "follow in his footsteps" backstabbing?
Ted Kennedy's last days were filled with concerns and hopes about who would take his place when he was gone. If she is a good dem, then I have to believe the Senator would approve of her stepping up to the plate.

16. Most politician tried to follow in the foot steps of
JFK and RFK and have failed miserably, so I'm not impressed by those words because most of
us have heard that before, thats why it's important to have a track record to show what
you have done for the people of Massachusetts to prove your entitlement to the Kennedy's
legacy.

8. I don't think she understands
the sentiment people have toward Ted Kennedy, but, we shall see, also, its
not about dynasty, it's about doing the right thing for the people, does she
have that track record of charities she has done in the past to benefit the
people of Massachusetts(?)

I don't know anything about her so I can't answer those things. Do you know her track record?

who have no idea what we're talking about. :D I guess we can still differ on the appropriateness of her announcing her candidacy. I think there's nothing wrong with it since the primary is in early Dec. and the general is in Jan.

14. I would like to know what she has done
for the state besides being an Attorney General? furthermore, I just have this
feeling that she has played her hand too soon irregardless of her ambition and
she has misread the sentiments involved when it comes to the Kennedy's.

17. But if you don't KNOW what she has done, why do you
criticize her? Maybe she and Kennedy were close. Maybe her position on policies are very similar to Kennedy's. I don't see now as "too soon." There's an election coming up SOON. We know Vicki Kennedy is NOT interested.

25. Um, there's only a few months till the primary election
and then less than a month until the general.

She had to declare ASAP if she wanted to run--and while I have nothing but the deepest affection for Ted Kennedy, I'd like to know who's going to take his place.

28. A little bit about her here.
A little bit about her here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martha_Coakley

"In December 1997, Coakley resigned her position to campaign for District Attorney in the 54 cities and towns of Middlesex County. During her term as District Attorney, Coakley has been recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving, the Massachusetts School of Law and the Frank J. Murray Inn of Court.

In November 2000, the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts honored Coakley with its coveted Leila J. Robinson Award for her contributions to the field of law. In June 2002—the year she was President of the Massachusetts District Attorney's Association—the YWCA Boston selected her as a member of its Academy of Women Achievers Class of 2002.

In 2004, she received the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce’s Pinnacle Award for Excellence in Management in Government. She also received the Eleanor Roosevelt Award from the Massachusetts Democratic Party in 2006. A former president of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts, she has served on the Board of Directors at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Middlesex Partnerships for Youth, Inc."

As a District Attorney, I would think she had to keep her political positions under wraps. But here is her web site.

29. Having read all of that
I still can't find anything that tells me what are her positions on health care, education,
energy, religion and social awareness.

Serving on boards and being a member does not impress me one iota, what have she done as
member of these various groups to benefit the community?

The owner of that seat was known for his dedication to the community, he was a champion of
courses and was passionate about these courses, is she passionate(?) imo thats the kind of
candidate they should be looking for, enough of the charade.

21. yes. I live in Mass.

People here are serious about sports, and they are serious about politics - but definately seperate.

I heard a local news commentator saying that and I agree with him - maybe some other state you could mix the 2 things, not here.

27. She was just on Hardball. She's no DINO. She sounds liberal...
she'd like to see Cheney investigated if it leads to him, she's pro-choice and for allowing abortions in the public option, she's for gun control, etc.
