Thom Hartmann: "President Obama needs to listen to FDR to learn how to take on the Republicans!"
He's played some amazing audio of FDR - "Our shirt sleeves are rolled up, and they'll stay rolled up!"

Time to take names and kick butt!

:fistbump:

1. 10/31/1936
FDR running for his second term: "I welcome their hatred." Applause continued on for close to 2 minutes. "In my first term, they met their match, in my second term, they'll meet their master."

Thom: "If you don't want to get onboard, the hell with you."

2. The audio of FDR is awesome.
FDR says: If you want to get on board, get on board, if not, to hell with you.

I wish Obama would go there.

7. Franklin and Eleanor played tackle football, not two-hand touch. But smiled while playing. nt

4. I've read as much as I've been able to regarding FDR and I've come to this conclusion.
The perennial fight with his polio strengthened his moral, personal, and political resolve. (And advice from Louis Howe didn't hurt either.)

I can't imagine FDR being intimidated in the least by the republicans of his day after being challenged by pain and immobility of polio minute-by-minute for decades. I hate to use "blessing in disguise" but I see the condition as ironically making him into the legend he became.

5. Obama's favorable ratings go down every time he tries to appease the Republicons.
His ratings go up when he sticks to the progressive agenda. When he goes along with watered down legislation, his approval ratings go down because people know he is simply rolling over for the racists.

6. He's responding to Jean Edward Smith's column in this morning's NYT
It's weird being labelled here as anti-Obama DLCer and non-progressive for wanting him to fight for healthcare reform:

9. Obama needs to channel BOTH Roosevelts.
First he needs to summon up Teddy to bust up the robber baron corporations, then he needs to get his FDR on and shut down the economic royalists once and for all.
