Some of you will have to die.
Edited on Thu Sep-03-09 02:19 PM by asdjrocky
We live in the richest nation in the world and we still can’t provide decent, warm affordable housing for everyone.

So some of you will have to die.

Insurance CEOs have to make huge profits for their companies to justify their sickly obscene salaries.

So some of you will have to die.

For more than 60 years the Democratic party has been unable to fulfill the promise of healthcare for all.

So some of you will have to die.

Blue Shield says that’s an experimental treatment.

So some of you will have to die.

14,000 people lose their insurance coverage everyday.

So some of you will have to die.

26% of the people in my county are uninsured.

So some of you will have to die.

One of the three food banks in my town have closed for lack of public and private support.

So some of you will have to die.

A child with an abscessed tooth cannot go to the dentist.

So some of you will have to die.

Politicians do what is safe, rather than what is right.

So some of you will have to die.

18,000 people die every year due to lack of medical insurance.

So how many have already died since President Harry S Truman said this-

“People with low or moderate incomes do not get the same medical attention as those with high incomes. The poor have more sickness, but they get less medical care. People who live in rural areas do not get the same amount or quality of medical attention as those who live in our cities.” -November 19, 1945

We can do this. President Obama can deliver on the promises he has made and the promises of all of those that came before him. We can’t go back and save the thousands upon thousands of citizens we’ve lost, but now is the time to make sure we lose not one more because of medical care.

President Obama, members of congress, the American people are counting on you, the American people need you to do the right thing like they’ve never needed it before. Stop the insurance companies and the moneyed interests from robbing the American people. From draining the true strength of this country. Show the rest of the world the true color of America.

Do this, and no one else will have to die.

1. All of us will have to die -- the issue is that all need good healthcare coverage until then.
This will make or break the Obama Administration and the Dem majority in Congress.

fruition of the 'puke wet dream of perpetual wars and hegemony abroad and concentration of 95%+ of the nation's wealth among a precious few all the while the beast is being starved so all social programs/safety nets can be gutted. See, that was easy. But don't blame only the 'pukes for were key Dems to serve the people rather than their corporate masters, this could have all been stopped in its tracks. :P

43. No real Democrat is like them -
actually. Don't you sometimes get the distinct impression that some elective reps ran as Democrats but are, at heart, Republicans. A few Democrats are to the right of "old-time" Republicans.

As of 2006:

Other figures are higher, but this one uses the Institute of Medicine's methodology.

One sover the last 4 years that the number has increased again as something of a trend line.

23. My mother dies last year. She was Canadian.
According to doctors she should have died when she was a baby and then when she was a child and then as a young adult and then ... well you get the point. She was sick her entire life. She was a medical anomoly. She had rhumatoid and osteo arthritis, addisons and cushings disease, type 2 diabetes, IBS, 2 replacement hips and knees. She had over 27 major surgeries and multiple small ones through her life time. The longest stretch she had in a hospital was 3 years in IC.

She ran a publishing company, served on the hospital board, was a Lions member, served as a precinct judge for 40 years, gave to charities, raised a family, and did about half of it from a hospital bed. I used to be on a SWAT team and my mother is the only human who has ever knocked me flat on my ass - and she did it when she was in traction. Her last months were spent with round the clock attention and care. My dad had all the docs and nurses home phones and they were available to him any time. I cry when I think about how much she was loved. At her funeral most of the town showed up. My brothers friend Jerry, a harley mechanic who has never shaved or owned a suit showed up for the funeral in a new suit and a freshly shaved face. He cried like a baby.

Wonderful woman and I miss her daily.

My point here is that this giving person who contributed so much to her country, community and family would have died long ago without Canada's health care system. She got what she needed when she needed it and we never had to sell the home or even worry about a bill. It confounds my hard right wing father why America doesn't see that national single payer health care is good for a countries economy.

I don't get America. This seems so obvious, so right, and so just. What is your problem? Has everyone here called their congress critter? Have you gone to see them? All of them? Have you encouraged others to do so? I have. I've made sure I did because it is the right thing to do, the smart thing to do and the just thing to do.

I wish us all god speed in this quest.

PS - sorry about your mom. It hurts. I know. My thougts are with you.

33. America's Problem
My sympathy for your loss. Your mother's story is a tribute to the health care she received. Unfortunately, America has become an oligarchy pretending to be a republic. Our coprorate masters and their slugs in Congress and the White House care not one hoot about the PEOPLE. They've sent our jobs off shore, protect the three industries we have left - banking, military contractors and health insurance companies. Let it be a warning to the people of Canada, the neo-cons will do the same north of our borders.

Your post is important because it shows us what we lose when health care is denied. Granted, your mother was an extraordinary individual, but I'll bet we might have some people like her in the USA who were never able to realize their contribution.

Meanwhile, worthless individuals like Dick Cheney continue to live off the public dime and to be kept alive using the best medical technology has to offer, all the while denying the people footing the bill, the American citizens, a fair shot at even having health insurance.

44. And some of you will be crippled.
An insurance company crippled my neighbor. He tore a muscle lifting something. Not that big a deal. He just needed the muscle sewn back together and a little time to heal. But he couldn't afford that simple surgery on his own, and the insurance company fought his claim. It took 11 months to force them to pay. After that much time, though, the surgeons couldn't help him. Instead of going back to work after a few weeks, he was permanently disabled, forced to live off Social Security, which WE pay for. The insurance company had to pay his claim and court costs, but they do not pay for the costs of the disability they caused.

There are a few people that are being slated for death, and still have3 the capacity to wreak havoc on society, for the insult it has slammed us with. I will use politics, many others will use what they brung. I would have bit that finger off too. In fact, I am ready to go rounds. When the right says that I must die, to maintain the survival of the fittest, I want to skew that concept. There are many others too.

50. With Corporations, you only THINK you have health insurance!
For those of us who have actually had to deal with a serious health crisis in their family, we KNOW what actually goes on when you try to use your health insurance.

The insurance corporation will fight you every inch of the way to prevent payment of the hospital, doctor and other medical bills that result from the illness.

They pay "customary" rates instead of the actual costs, thereby forcing you to make up the difference in many cases (such as what happened to my family). They refuse to pay for lab tests ordered by your doctor, or procedures, or all of the above. They claim the prescriptions your doctor ordered are not covered. They drag out payments for months and months, to the point that doctors and/or lab companies start sending bills to you for payment.

At the end of the day, you who HAD health insurance ended up with bills totally over $68,000 that the insurance corporation cheated you out of so they could give the CEO obscene pay packages and so they could lobby your members of Congress to keep you from getting better health care and insurance reform.

Welcome to the United Corporate States of American, where the corporations run Congress and we are ignored.

This health care battle is not just about insurance reform -- it is US the people vs THEM the corporations for control of our country. If we let THEM win on the public option & reform, then watch how they destroy our health care over the next few years in the name of GREED.
