It will be interesting to see if he accepts.

"Cleve (Jones) is the organizer at this point and I know he's negotiating that and in contact with the White House, and if Obama does show up and speak I think that says a lot. And if he doesn't, that also speaks volumes. I'm all for him being given the only VIP invite to speak."

1. I pray that he does. This country needs a rational perspective on LGBT Human Rights.
Unfortunately, the crazies will just go crazier, but they were going to anyway, so we might just as well get it over with. That way we will know who the real Crazies are.

4. I think most would be pleased
with the exception of those that think it would somehow "damage" Obama.

23. He's got nothing to lose and absolutely everything to gain by doing this.
Chances are he will.

5. He won't.
He is going to keep his eye on the prize - re-election.

Note: I would like to be wrong. Wrong as hell. But his lack of bold moves on behalf of health care indicates to me that re-election is all he is thinking about.

8. I think speeches can mean a great deal
a forceful, very public use of the bully pulpit coupled with forceful action.

That's historically how Presidents get things done.

Can't speak for anyone else, but here were my thoughts on the subject.

26. Just one slight correction
The place where Matthew Shepard lost his life is on private property. The owner who was tired of the number of people visiting the site removed the entire fence post. Of course he could get permission to do so.

Pls don't take this wrong way I just thought you might not have known. It was really a great OP with a lot of great suggestions. :hi:

18. I saw that. Either they don't believe he'll do it or they
just won't ever be happy with him, saying it's "just words." I have hope and if he does it it WILL mean something.

19. I hope that he does.
Some reaching out to the LGBT community is definitely called for at this point. Long overdue IMO.

22. Promises not kept... this isn't good is it?
And I don't put Cleve on the same team in the political world. So would that be the area to step into? Similar to deciding on interviewing with a certain so-called "always balanced" network.

This would be the biggest thing a President has done for gay rights. So many look up to Obama, he'd be perfect.
