Settle for Kentucky GED

Why would any right thinking Kentuckian want President Obama to talk to their kids about the importance of education? President Obama earned a B.A. from Columbia University. He graduated summa cum laude from Harvard Law School where he was president of the Harvard Law Review . Not bad, but it falls short of a Kentucky GED.

Where’s common sense?

I don't want my child to hear President Obama talk to them at school on Sept. 8. He will just indoctrinate them in to being, what? Harvard graduates? President of the United States? Oh, no, we don't want that. Come on, folks, let’s use some sense.

How dare you, Mr. President? What gives you the right to encourage our schoolchildren to do their very best in school? Don't you know that intelligence is bad for the economy? The entire talk radio industry could fail if people start thinking for themselves. Thank heaven we have people like Principal Les McIntosh to squash civic involvement. He sounds like a "priddy intellajunt edjucashioner" to me.

...that getting a voter's registration card was the same as a driver's license. Just a short written test...maybe twenty questions and you have to get fifteen right. That alone would change life in the U.S. as we know it. Come to think of it...a little spelling test with easy words would change the landscape of our government.

Voting tests were made illegal when they were used to keep un- and under-educated African Americans from the voting polls--not because they couldn't think through the issues clearly, but based on not having good reading comprehension. Poor reading skills are still the norm for many urban and rural school districts. I can understand wanting a thinking populace to vote, but sadly, reading skills and comprehension don't always go hand-in-hand, and re-instituting voting tests will not eliminate those who vote least responsibly, but possibly would deter people otherwise sympathetic to our cause. I hate to say it, but thinking like that really underscores your username's privileged bias.

I mean really, who cares what they think in backward places like that? They always vote repuke in presidential elections but, even if they voted inteligently, they still wouldn't have enough electoral college votes to make any difference.

All of those little-vote stupid states (KY, TN, MO, etc.) should just be ignored.
