WooHoo! A man just came to my door with a voter registration form.
When I asked who he represented he said George Bush. I was happy to tell him I was already planning to vote & he would not get my vote in this election, nor did he in the last. He asked WHY didn't like * I listed no WMD's, 1,000 soldiers killed for no reason, the economy, no jobs. Then he asked what about the people who went down with the Twin Towers? I said Iraq had nothing to do with it. Our conversation was civil, but it is obvious to me he was hoping people aren't paying attention enough to get their facts straight. They been knocking on your door yet?

2. I got small Kerry sign by my door bell...
My neighborhood is filled with huge bush/cheney signs all along the main highways. I hope I see some Kerry/Edwards signs.

3. The best argument he had was....
"what about the people who went down with the Twin Towers?". If that's the best they have then they are really in trouble.

8. It would have taken everything I
had not to have punched him in the gut at that point. I know I'd have told him very firmly that the chimp ignored the warnings and then sat like a dumbass in that classroom when the attacks came. After that I'd have told him to get the hell off my property.

9. Sadly, It's Working...
I'm canvassing a lot of people these days who are still scared shitless and think Arabs are going to swoop down on us and fly airplanes and drive truck bombs into the local VFW Hall or Junior High School. It's irrational...but it's a fear 9/11 spawned based on years of stereotypes and fear mongering. It's taken hold, deep.

Even more frustrating is how the escalating war seems to be emboldening these sheeple into thinking they have to retain this regime...and that they are fighting these "evil doers".

The GOOP remade the Cold War boogie man into an Arab. There are a segment who believes a real war exists...either with Arabs (very few will ever say it in those terms, but that's what it is) or "terror". Don't ask for a logical explanation of their fear...it's like not liking liver...they can't explain it, but they know it. The best hopes is these people are so scared they stay home on election day.

12. the correct response to that comment:
Ya, I am angry about that, too... and angry that they stopped fighting al qeada and weakened their efforts to go after Osama in order to go to Iraq. If we get hit again from al qeada... we must hold those people, who decided to go to Iraq instead of finishing the job in Afghanistan, accountable.

4. My daughter has a visit yesterday from a register-to-vote campaigner
After my daughter produced her voter registration card to verify she'd been there, done that, the campaigner asked if she had decided who to vote for. My daugher replied yes, and the lady asked if she'd mind sharing it with her. My daughter (bless her!) responded, "Not the devil who's in the White House!"

I raised her right!! Er...should I say, correctly!

BUSH MUST GO!!

5. I mean no disrespect by this; are you an Independent or other-
than-Dem?

I'm just curious why they would even bother; if they are getting precinct maps that are that off, or what?

I have gotten mail from the Pubes; and I've been a rock-solid Dem for nearly 20 years!

I sent them a check--

for .05!

17. Long time Dem
I live in Maine, though. Not one of the glamor swing states like Ohio or Michigan, but they've really been pushing for votes. I've been phone polled more than once also.

10. Just the democrats at our door
asked about the presidential race (said that they had enthusiastic Kerry responses, but mostly more tepid responses among those for bushco.)

asked about the governor's race...
asked about the congressional race...

They didn't ask about the senate race... I commented on that... noting that it wasn't on their script. See, the senate race is for Evan Bayh - two reasons it might not have been on the list:

1) it isn't really a race (the repubs barely put up a challenger, the challenger is a unknown African American college professor... not much of a constituency in the state of Indiana which can be anti-intellectual, and still backwards in race relations in many parts of the state...)

2) Bayh doesn't inspire enthusiasm among many - thus ignoring the race prevents invoking the "what is wrong with the party" line of rhetoric which can lead to depressing votes that are very important (at least in the governors race which is now tipping towards Mitch Daniels.)

He (the canvasser) chuckled when I noted the lack of questions about Bayh, and said that he noticed that as well (but it sounds like I was the first person to point it out.)

13. Rebuttal to the Twin Towers thing
"If the person who actually received the most votes in Florida would have been in the White House on 9/11, if the hijackers would have got so far as to actually hijack the airplanes, Gore would have had those planes shot down and we'd be talking about the 200 victims of 9/11 instead of the 3000 victims of 9/11. See, Gore cared very deeply about terrorism and was very proactive in fighting it while he was vice-president. Bush didn't give a damn about terrorism until one of the biggest terrorist attacks ever conducted in the history of the world hit us."

15. 9/11 occured on HIS watch. He was responsible for our security and
he failed to provide it. He should be fired over 9/11 alone, not rehired. (I've been saying this since 9/12...sigh)

19. you should have kept him there as long as possible
then, when he tried to leave, bonk him on the head and tie him up in your basement

seriously....keep those canvassers as busy as you can, so they reach as few others as possible

invite them in for a drink, a meal, etc.

I mean it
