9/11 is a sad day. No one in the Bush administration ever apologized for fucking up. Thousands dead.
Not just at the World Trade Center site, Pentagon, and field in Pennsylvania. But also the additional thousands in Iraq who would not have died without Bush/Cheney's powerful excuse of 9/11 to do pretty much whatever they wanted.

It is a sad, sad shame that people who were in positions of responsibility could have acted decisively to keep us safe on that day but did not. Then, we are supposed to reward them for "keeping us safe" since that time.

The day 9/11 was a perfect video loop to keep people in Dubuque, Iowa, Lubbock, Texas, and other places in a state of fear so that they would be trapped in such fear and not stand up to those fears. We saw what happens when a country is encouraged by its leadership and the media to give in to such fear. Victimhood, exploitation, and a hardening of the human spirit.

Thankfully, we have enough time and perspective on this anniversary to understand we must mourn those who lost their lives. They were tragic victims of a crime. It was a sensational and powerful tragedy. It was a shocking blow to the American psyche. We must never forget ALL of the lessons of 9/11.

2. Richard Clarke was the only one with enough courage to do so:
Edited on Fri Sep-11-09 12:48 PM by Richardo
At the outset of his testimony Clarke offered an apology to the families of 9/11 victims and an acknowledgment that the government had failed: "I also welcome the hearings because it is finally a forum where I can apologize to the loved ones of the victims of 9/11...", "To the loved ones of the victims of 9/11, to them who are here in this room, to those who are watching on television, your government failed you. Those entrusted with protecting you failed you. And I failed you. We tried hard, but that doesn't matter because we failed. And for that failure, I would ask, once all the facts are out, for your understanding and for your forgiveness."<6> Clarke was the only member of the Clinton or Bush Administrations who provided an apology to the family members of victims along with an acknowledgement of the government's failure.

Of course, he was not a Bush appointee, so it doesn't really count. But I do applaud his humility and his humanity.

3. Why would Bush apologize?
He got just about everything he wanted out of 9/11 except that "permanent republican majority".

He and his cronies got even richer than they were before.

4. that is true. "We hit the trifecta". I don't know if those words were ever substantiated
but if so, it is a horrible horrible way to treat the aftermath of the worst attack on U.S. soil that just occurred on your watch.

7. This is my first and last 9/11 post on 9/11
I don't want to be involved in the politicizing, remembrance, nostalgia, usage (for justification), or even discussion of 9/11. The well has been poisoned. People died. People profited. People were fooled. People fooled themselves. Its time this tragedy is judged in a more historical context and people move, the fuck, on.

8. My anger and sadness have ebbed. This is a small statement about it.
Kind of a time to recall the event with even more distance now that Bush and company aren't on the TV trying to whip even more political advantage out of it.

I think we'll many of us look at 9/11 not only as a tragedy and a crime but also as a terrible precursor to an ugly period in U.S. history.

11. we know better. I don't recall republicons blaming Bush 1 for first WTC attack
and that was FEBRUARY of 1993 less than a month into CLinton's term. Then we have a history of terrorism and Clinton's battling of that terrorism all through the 90's. Clinton's team is rebuffed as they attempt to explain the criticality of al queda threat, and EIGHT MONTHS LATER the attacks happen with Condee saying "we had noooo ideeaaaaa>>>"

oh REALLY.

Go ahead and blame Clinton you fucking assholes. That means if there is any forgiveness in the afterlife, you'll get none.

12. Don't take orders from
oregone. I'm glad you made this OP..It's good to remember the whole thing in it's full context. It was a sad sad day 8 years ago and when I was walking back from working out that day.. I knew what had happened and knew everything would get worse now.

I was new to politics but I knew..I knew bush's polls were in the toilet on 9/10 and because they sat on their thumbs they would freakin' skyrocket.

And, how long did that good will last?..Until they started talking about bombing Iraq?

13. On second thought
I might take advantage of the opportunity to harass people who divulge in politicizing and trumping up the date as a call for nationalism, or some shit.
